As a Software Developer II, you'll contribute technical leadership, collaborate across hardware and software disciplines, and bring smart products from concept to deployment in a fast paced, growth focused environment.Scope of Position\nThis detailed individual, as part of the Computer Software Engineering Team as a part of the tekmar R&D Engineering team will be responsible for supporting as an intermediate to senior software engineering position. This individual will be responsible for technical leadership and contribution to a wide range of a range of embedded software development projects focused on products comprising the “Internet of Things” (IoT). The individual may also lead multi-disciplinary projects and mentor junior team members.\nThis position has no direct reports.\nThis position reports to the Software Engineering Manager. This role is hybrid and is based in Vernon , BC, Canada.\nPrimary Job Duties and Responsibilities\nWorks with product management on requirements gathering for projects where the objectives may only be defined with moderate detail, but may require some independent research.\nDocuments software design plans and specifications, including architectural diagrams, sequences of operation, state diagrams, and other formats appropriate to the subject matter.\nDesigns and implements software mainly in C and builds software tooling using Python, Javascript, and shell scripts.\nIntegrates third party software, including open-source libraries. Ensures imported software meets quality standards.\nTests, troubleshoots, and debugs embedded and other software programs and scripts.\nWrites and executes test plans and test code involving a range of techniques from automated unit testing through black-box bench testing to system simulation and modelling.\nManages software releases to the factory for new product manufacturing and to the field for remote product updates.\nWorks closely with embedded software and hardware engineers, IT professionals, web developers and product management to develop integrated IoT solutions.\nCompiles, analyzes and reports research and test data.\nCollaborates with other departments or Watts companies that develop software, electronics or mechanical hardware.\nProvides project leadership within scope of position and accountabilities, and is expected to provide software leadership within projects of moderate to intermediate complexity\nAssume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the software engineering manager or Company management.\nProvides mentorship to junior members of the R&D Engineering team\nResponsibility directly tied to Watts Values of Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement & Transparency.\nTravel Requirements: May include up to 10% travel\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technologist Diploma with equivalent experience required (Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Mechatronics or similar)\n5+ years intermediate to senior level experience.\nSolid understanding of software development fundamentals including shell scripting, IDEs, version control, configuration management, continuous integration, automated testing, etc.\nUnderstand the challenges that separate embedded software development from desktop and server development\nAbility to read schematics and component datasheets and, from them, implement and troubleshoot hardware drivers\nComfortable debugging hardware/software interactions using multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.\nExperience with developing real time operating systems (eg FreeRTOS) and bare metal\nExperience with board bring-up for new product development\nWorking knowledge of management tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, Jira and MS Project.\nPassionate about learning new technologies and finding ways to apply them\nStrong conceptual and visionary thinking\nStrong communication, both written and oral, and the ability to present complex technical information clearly to a variety of peers and audiences.\nActively collaborates with peers and external workgroups, voluntarily and effectively shares information\nAbility to work productively in a research environment using critical thinking skills and being decisive while working cooperatively with others\nAbility to stay organized in a dynamic working environment\nSelf-directed and able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently as well as on a team\nUnderstanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.\nMust successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, including a criminal record check and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.\nGeneral Applicable Company Competencies\nCommitment to Watts’ values of integrity, accountability, continuous improvement and innovation, and transparency.\nPunctuality and dependability.\nAbility to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities and stressful conditions.\nAdherence to all personnel policies, procedures, and standards of process as implemented by Watts.\nMaintain productive and collaborative relationships with other Watts employees.\nAdherence to Watts’ seven cultural beliefs: Growth Mindset, Customer-Focused Innovation, Constant Communication, Clear Goals, Collaborate Globally, Be Inclusive, and Take Action.\nWorking Conditions\nWhile performing the job duties, you will be working in an office environment. There is a bonus plan attached to this role. tekmar offers an additional vacation accrual as a part of our total package.
