Job Summary\nUnder the direction of the Patient Financial Services Director, the PBX operator operates the switchboard, beeping & paging systems. Coordinates communications between employees, physicians, patients and the community.\nThe PBX Operator must have the ability to handle multiple tasks on a variety of equipment in often stressful situations. Must have the ability to maintain perspective and composure during these stressful situations.\nII. Duties And Responsibilities\nAnswers incoming, outgoing and in-house signals, directing or transferring appropriately, while giving general information.\nPages and beeps as requested with appropriate documentation and logging.\nCalls ALL codes which include: Code Blues, Trauma Codes, Mass Disasters, Fire Codes, paging and beeping \"On Call\" personnel by utilizing call schedules or designated employees/physicians.\nLogs long distance calls placed from in-house extensions.\nMaintains patient listing, making corrections/updates as necessary.\nCompletes work orders by assigning numbers & logging.\nMaintains, updates/corrects physician's monthly call lists\nAccomplishes special projects as directed by the PFS Director\nReports equipment failure, telephones and beepers with proper documentation.\nOrders supplies and restocks on scheduled order days.\nKey Control - Logged in/out per personnel receiving and/or returning keys.\nReports to maintenance any/all alarms.\nCross trained to complete miscellaneous paperwork as required per Patient Financial Services\nEmployee will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may arise\nMust be able to:\nTrain new employees as needed.\nTrain current employees on new tasks.\nIII. Education\nA High School diploma or equivalent is required.\nIV. Qualifications And Experience\nOne year experience working PBX or similar communication system is required.\nV. Physical Demands\nMust be able to do the following on a constant, ongoing basis:\nHear and understand both face-to-face and telephone conversations.\nSee sufficiently to complete forms, read instructions, see numbers and lights on thecommunications equipment and maintenance alarms.\n\nConverse appropriately with individuals both inside and outside of the hospital.\nGive and receive simple and complex instructions.\nRead and understand written language\nConcentrate on, and remember varied job duties.\nPrioritize work of position.\nSolve problems ranging from simple to complex.\nUse both hands for operating PBX, Beeping and Paging systems.\nGrasp pen or pencil for long periods of time for writing and/or recording.\nMust be able to:\nCarry less than 10 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 25 lbs. occasionally\nWork requires sitting for long periods of time to complete paperwork, converse on the telephone system, beep and/or page.\nVI. Effect Of Error\nProbable errors usually would not be serious in nature; however, errors made in calling Emergency Codes could be serious due to loss of responding time. Works with confidential data, which if disclosed, might have internal and/or external effects.\nVII. Working Conditions\nWork performed in a well lighted, heated and cooled office environment with a high level of activity. Due to physical layout of department there is minimal exposure to contagious diseases.\nVIII.
