Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job - it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the role

Are you passionate about helping people make positive changes and build a brighter future? Do you want to use your skills to support people affected by drug and alcohol misuse on their journey towards recovery?

At Waythrough, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a life they value. We work alongside people facing challenges including mental health difficulties, substance misuse, poverty and disadvantage, helping them access the support they need to move forward.

We’re looking for a motivated and compassionate Recovery Coordinator to join our Reconnected to Health team at HMP Deerbolt. Working within a prison environment, you’ll support individuals experiencing substance misuse issues, helping them engage with treatment, reduce harm and work towards sustainable recovery.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, supporting them to recognise their strengths, develop new skills and take positive steps towards their future.

What you’ll do

As a Recovery Coordinator, you’ll manage a caseload of individuals, providing personalised support throughout their recovery journey. You’ll build positive relationships, identify individual needs and work collaboratively with

colleagues and partner agencies to help people achieve their goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a caseload, completing assessments and developing, implementing and reviewing individual recovery plans.
  • Providing one-to-one support, brief interventions and therapeutic interventions to encourage positive change.
  • Facilitating group sessions and structured programmes to support recovery.
  • Working collaboratively with prison staff, healthcare professionals and external partner agencies to coordinate support.
  • Completing risk assessments, risk management plans and safeguarding assessments to promote the safety and wellbeing of individuals.
  • Delivering harm reduction interventions and supporting access to relevant treatment, screening, testing and immunisation services.
  • Supporting individuals and their families, where appropriate, to reduce the impact of substance misuse and encourage positive family relationships.
  • Maintaining accurate case records and contributing to reviews, reports and team meetings.
  • Promoting visible recovery and opportunities for peer support.

What we’re looking fo r

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and committed to helping people achieve positive outcomes. You’ll be comfortable working with individuals who may have complex needs and understand the importance of building trusting, professional relationships.

You’ll be able to work independently, manage your workload effectively and contribute positively as part of a wider team. Strong communication skills, motivation and a collaborative approach are essential.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or above, or a willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes.
  • An understanding of, and ability to deliver, interventions such as motivational interviewing, brief interventions, psychosocial interventions, CBT and ITEP.
  • Experience working with carers and families.

Experience in substance misuse services, recovery planning, harm reduction, risk management, safeguarding and delivering one-to-one or group interventions would be advantageous.

Experience working within a prison environment would also be beneficial. However, we’re interested in transferable skills and welcome applicants from relevant backgrounds, including health and social care, who have the right values, motivation and willingness to learn.
