Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.\nHere’s what this particular role covers.\nAbout our Test Engineer Teams\nWe’re seeking an exceptional Test Engineer to join our Germany-based team focused on localising and advancing Wayve’s autonomous driving technology for the German market. This is a unique opportunity to play a hands-on role in shaping our AV capabilities in Germany from the ground up.\nYour day-to-day\nAs a Test Engineer, you'll independently own the design and delivery of automated verification for a defined area of our embedded software stack. You'll build robust, reusable test automation, drive failures to root cause across engineering boundaries, and steadily raise the bar on coverage, reliability, and traceability. This is a hands-on delivery role with room to grow into broader areas of the system including sensing and model-behaviour testing as the company and your experience evolve. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a sharp eye for improvement across multiple engineering domains.\nWhat you’ll be working on\nDevelop automation for system functionality tests at component, integration, and system levels, across software and hardware boundaries.\n\nAutomate open-loop and closed-loop replay based Tests, reliability and fault-injection tests to support verification, release, coverage expansion, and debug workflows.\n\nLead root-cause investigations for failures found during test campaigns, collaborating across hardware, software, and infrastructure teams.\n\nOptimise buildkite CI/CD-integrated test workflows for rapid, reliable, and repeatable execution.\n\nIntegrate third-party verification tools including JAMA (requirements), MC/DC (coverage), and MISRA (style compliance); manage artefacts via Artifactory and Azure.\n\nDefine and track KPIs and quality metrics for system testing, supporting data-driven validation and release decisions.\n\nUncover software and hardware bugs through increased test coverage and report findings through JIRA.\n\nIdentify and implement infrastructure improvements that enhance test coverage, failure traceability, and compliance reporting.\n\nReview, create, and adhere to Risk Assessments to ensure all testing activities are conducted safely and responsibly.\n\nYou should apply if\nEssential Skills & Experience\nHands-on experience with system-level verification and validation in robotics, embedded software, or mechatronic systems, with a track record of delivering test automation independently.\n\nExperience with L2+ hands-off, L3, or L4 automated driving systems.\n\nKnowledge of consumer safety-rating protocols (e.g., Euro NCAP -AEB, LSS/LKA, ADAS scenarios), DCAS regulatory testing (UN R171), and automotive cybersecurity testing and standards (ISO/SAE 21434, UN R155).\n\nExperience with HiL testing and tooling using CAN, Ethernet, GMSL, dSPACE, Vector, Xylon, or similar.\n\nStrong proficiency in Python, including developing automation test frameworks with pytest.\n\nProven ability in interface-level testing, including hardware/software interactions and embedded interfaces.\n\nExperience integrating software quality assurance tools and standards (ASPICE, SOTIF, ISO 26262, JAMA, X-RAY).\n\nKnowledge of open- and closed-loop HiL replay using dSPACE or other emulators.\n\nProficient in CI/CD principles and related tooling (e.g., GitLab CI, Buildkite, Bazel).\n\nExperience with test automation dashboards, logging, and reporting infrastructure (e.g., Grafana, Looker, Datadog, JIRA).\n\nExperience developing or testing automotive software across embedded and system levels.\n\nStrong cross-functional communication skills; able to work collaboratively across software, hardware, autonomy, DevOps, and product teams.\n\nDesirable Skills & Experience\nExperience with autonomous vehicle systems, ADAS, or related technologies..\n\nStrong Python Automation and knowledge of dSPACE open and closed Loop HIL based replay Testing\n\nExperience contributing to continuous improvement of test methods, safety procedures, or operational efficiency.\n\nAwareness of data management and version control systems (e.g., Git, Buildkite, or similar).\n\nFamiliarity with agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) and a demonstrated ability to use them to accelerate and optimise test development, debugging, and automation workflows.\n\nNot ticking every box? That’s totally okay! If you’re passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.\nMore about Wayve:\nWayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.\nOur ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.\nHow we work - Locations & Flexible Working:\nOur main hubs are in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver and Leonberg. We operate a hybrid working model that combines in-person collaboration in our dedicated office spaces with focused time working remotely. This gives our teams the connection and energy of working together, alongside the flexibility to do their best work in a way that fits their lives.\nThe Interview Process:\nOur process is clear and respectful of your time:\nInitial call / recruiter screen (30 mins)\n\nCompetency Interviews [Python Programming, 60mins]\n\nDeep-dive technical interviews [System Design, Validation & Release, 60mins, Cross Functional Collaboration, 60mins]\n\nFinal interview: [Mission & Values alignment, 30mins].\n\nWe’ll always explain the format and work around your availability.\nWhat’s in it for you (Location dependant):\nSalaries benchmarked against the market annually\nMeaningful equity, sharing in the ownership and long term success of Wayve\nRelocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable\nHybrid working, core hours and the chance to work hands on in vehicle workshops and labs\nLearning and development budgets with support for training, conferences and growth\nComprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, retirement or pension where applicable, access to therapists, wellbeing partnerships, team socials and more\nA quick, honest note before you apply.\nWayve is not a mature, fully-structured place with the playbook already written. Much of how we work is still being written, and if you join, you’ll help write it. That suits people who want real ownership more than people who need a settled structure from day one.\nIf that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we’d really like to hear from you.\nAt Wayve we're committed to creating a diverse, fair and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives, and regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law.\nFor more information visit Careers at Wayve.
