Your impact will come through technical credibility, strategic ownership, coaching and your ability to influence teams and senior stakeholders.\nYou will maintain sufficient hands-on involvement to understand current challenges, review testing approaches, investigate complex quality issues and ensure the strategy is delivering measurable improvements.\nYour objectives\nOwn and evolve the CLMi product testing and quality engineering strategy.\nPromote a culture in which quality is shared across the engineering organisation.\nImprove the consistency, effectiveness and maturity of testing practices.\nDefine appropriate testing standards, principles and governance.\nEstablish the appropriate layering of testing across unit, integration, API, UI and end-to-end levels.\nShape automation strategy and improve the reliability and maintainability of automated test suites.\nEmbed risk-based testing throughout planning, development and release activities.\nImprove testability, defect prevention and the use of meaningful quality metrics.\nCoach testers, developers and engineers in effective quality practices.\nEnsure release decisions are supported by appropriate quality evidence.\nResponsibilities\nQuality leadership and strategy\nAct as the recognised subject matter expert for software testing and quality engineering.\nOwn, communicate and continuously improve the CLMi product testing strategy.\nEstablish testing principles, standards and governance across engineering teams.\nPromote quality as an engineering-wide responsibility rather than an activity owned exclusively by testers.\nInfluence teams and senior stakeholders without relying on direct line-management authority.\nChallenge testing practices that are ineffective, overly manual or difficult to sustain.\nHelp teams balance delivery priorities against product, technical and operational risk.\nTesting architecture and governance\nDefine how testing should be distributed across unit, component, integration, API, UI and end-to-end layers.\nEncourage testing at the earliest practical stage of the software development lifecycle.\nGuide teams in their use of functional, exploratory and automated testing.\nEnsure testing remains proportionate to technical complexity, business criticality and delivery risk.\nReview the effectiveness of existing testing practices and lead improvement initiatives.\nEnsure appropriate quality evidence is available to support release decisions.\nAutomation and CI/CD\nProvide strategic direction for automated testing frameworks and implementation approaches.\nPromote reliable, maintainable and scalable test automation.\nEnsure appropriate integration and layering of automated testing in the CI/CD delivery pipeline.\nImprove automated feedback cycles and reduce unreliable or low-value tests.\nSupport the review of automation code, test architecture and engineering practices.\nHelp teams determine which tests should run at different stages of the delivery pipeline.\nNon-functional quality\nProvide direction on performance, load, stress, scalability and capacity testing.\nPromote security-focused testing and validation practices.\nEncourage accessibility considerations throughout design, development and testing.\nSupport effective test environment and test data management.\nConsider application deployment, runtime is best suited to this role?\nEssential experience\nExtensive experience in software testing and quality engineering.\nExperience owning and implementing a product-level testing strategy.\nStrong knowledge of risk-based testing techniques.\nExperience defining the appropriate layering of testing across complex software products.\nSignificant experience with test automation strategy, frameworks and governance.\nStrong API and integration testing knowledge.\nExperience integrating automated testing into CI/CD delivery pipelines.\nThe ability to influence engineering teams and senior stakeholders without direct line-management authority.\nExperience coaching testers, developers or automation engineers.\nStrong technical investigation, defect analysis and root-cause analysis skills.\nExperience working in an Agile software product or enterprise SaaS environment.\nStrong working knowledge of Functional and exploratory testing.\nUnit, integration, API, UI and end-to-end testing approaches.\nBrowser-based test automation.\nAPI and contract testing.\nCI/CD quality controls and automated test execution.\nPerformance, load and scalability testing.\nSecurity-focused testing practices.\nSQL and data validation.\nMonitoring and observability principles.\nTest environment and test data management.\nDesirable technology exposure\nExperience with our specific tools is not essential, but familiarity with some of the following would be beneficial:\nCypress for automated UI and integrated testing.\nBrowserStack for orchestrating integrated or cross-browser test execution.\nC# and .NET testing environments.\nxUnit or similar unit and integration test frameworks.\nGitLab CI/CD pipelines.\nAngular client applications.\nPostgreSQL databases.\nKubernetes-based tests in C#.
