As the attorney becomes familiar with Weld County's structure, departments, and legal needs, opportunities may include providing legal counsel to County departments, elected officials, and boards and participating in broader civil practice areas.\nPlease submit a cover letter and resume as part of your application materials.\n--\nJob Description\nCourtroom & Administrative Representation - 65%\nManage well established dockets in civil and regulatory matters, including mental health hearings, land use and zoning violations, and dog at large citations.\nAppear in administrative hearings on behalf of County departments involving matters such as assistant payment collection, unemployment claims, and property tax appeals.\nConduct legal research and analyze statutes, case law, regulations, and other relevant authorities.\nCommunicate and collaborate with individuals, agencies, and external parties involved in County legal matters.\n Legal Support & Document Preparation - 30%\nAssist with Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) requests through structured review, redaction, and document preparation.\nDraft and review legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, leases, and other materials as assigned, with opportunities to refine and expand drafting skills.\nSupport the development and refinement of administrative procedures and legal guidance documents for County departments.\nAttend or observe meetings of the Board of County Commissioners as assigned to gain familiarity with County governance, with the opportunity to assume advisory responsibilities as experience increases.\nOther Duties as Assigned - 5%\nPerform job related duties as assigned by the County Attorney or Deputy County Attorney.\nFollow policies, procedures, and the Weld County Code of Conduct. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to guidelines regarding appropriate release of information.\nDuties listed are representative and do not encompass all tasks that may be assigned within this job classification.\n--\nRequired Qualifications\nRequired Education\nGraduation from an ABA accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D. or equivalent).\nExperience Qualifications\nExperience practicing law, such as internships, clerkships, clinics, or professional work involving civil matters or government settings as a minimum requirement.\nPreferred Experience\nOne to three years of experience practicing civil law or representing government agencies.\nExperience in litigation, administrative hearings, mediation, or dispute resolution.\nExperience reviewing documents or handling CORA or other public records processes.\nSkills and Abilities\nCandidate must possess strong legal research and writing skills.\nCandidate must possess sufficient computer skills to perform essential job functions.\nCandidate must possess the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the client, fellow employees and colleagues, opposing counsel, and the court.\nCandidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.\n Licenses and Certifications\nPassed the Colorado State Bar Exam and able to practice law in Weld County.\nAdmission to the Colorado State Bar and member in good standing.\nDriving is essential in this position.\nCandidate must have a valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance Upon Hire Required\nCandidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment.
