Job Description Summary

Responsible for learning how to accurately determine eligibility through the application and recertification processes. This includes working towards independent processing of applications for public assistance programs under close supervision. Learns to gather and verify information from clients and enters data into state and county systems. Provides customer service to clients by helping them understand the application process and offering referrals to other services when needed. Gains knowledge of eligibility programs and systems through formal training and daily on-the-job support while working toward independent case processing.

Primary work location is at the Greeley office.

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We believe we can listen better, learn more and act faster when we are able to build strong internal and external relationships in the same physical space. With this in mind, this position is considered an in-person position. This position may be eligible for up to 10 days per month telework options upon successful completion of initial training and demonstration of the ability to work independently while meeting productivity and quality standards. Training typically takes three (3) months and occurs in our Greeley location. Mileage is paid for travel if required.

Job Description

Primary work location - Greeley

Program Training - 25%

  • Participate in classroom and hands-on training for public assistance programs such as Medicaid and SNAP.
  • Learn to use eligibility systems and tools such as CBMS and PEAK.
  • Work closely with trainers, supervisors, and peers to build foundational knowledge.
  • Demonstrate progress toward established training goals in accuracy and timeliness.

Application and Renewal Processing - 30%

  • Assist with reviewing applications and renewal packets to check for completeness.
  • Demonstrate progress toward the ability to independently review new applications, recertification’s and supporting documentation for completeness.
  • Performs extensive research in multiple databases to verify information and identify any inconsistent information.
  • Determines initial eligibility, compliance, and ongoing eligibility for public assistance programs using unique guidelines, information obtained from the client interview, and any new information obtained from research.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and exemplify personal accountability in the learning process by researching available resources including desk aids, rules, and statues.
  • Gathers information such as financial documentation and other supporting information from clients in person, over the phone, and from electronic applications.
  • Progressively increase program knowledge to assist clients in understanding what information and documentation is needed, how it is obtained and how to complete required forms and applications.
  • Advises clients of their rights, responsibilities and pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Offers information and makes referrals relating to additional services and assistance provided within the Department or the community.

Data Entry and Case Support - 15%

  • Learn and complete required forms and enter all new and updated client information into several county and state computer programs and/or databases.
  • Learn and update all required logs and reports and communicate the status of pending cases to track manager.
  • Demonstrate progress toward meeting and maintaining processing and quality expectations set by the department and state.

Customer Service - 15%

  • Maintains a positive professional relationship with all team members and supports a healthy and productive work environment.
  • Maintains a high level of professional communication, customer service and follow through with clients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Responds to inquiries timely and communicate case status of assigned work to the appropriate parties.
  • Proactively returns calls and e-mails and communicates with supervisor when additional assistance is needed to complete a task.

Professionalism and Teamwork - 15%

  • Attend team meetings and participate in department updates and training, including viewing recordings for division or department updates and reading county wide messaging.
  • Contribute to a respectful, collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Show initiative in learning new tasks and asking questions when unsure.
  • Understands how one’s day-to-day work significantly impacts the team’s success.

Required Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma/GED

Experience Qualifications

  • 1 year Full time business or clerical experience in an office environment or
  • any equivalent combination of education or experience.

Preferred Education

  • Associate's Degree

  • Candidate must possess accurate 10 key abilities.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to enter data into several different computer programs.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to use multiple databases and computer programs.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to learn and apply new computer skills on a regular basis.
  • Candidate must possess knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows and Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and department policies and procedures.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to write correspondence.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to apply math concepts and calculations in the work environment.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to apply critical thinking to problem solve in a work environment.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to work in and engage in a positive, continuously improving, and professional work environment.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast paced, high volume and ever- changing work environment and be able to handle high stress situations.
  • Candidate must follow Human Services policies and procedures, the Weld County Code of Conduct and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both.
  • Ability to keyboard at 35 words per minute preferred.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Candidate must provide own transportation and be willing to travel as needed to meet the essential functions of the position. Required
  • Candidate must pass Human Services Background Checks. Required
  • Driving is essential in this position.
  • Candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance Upon Hire Required
  • Candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment. Required
  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.

This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
