This internship provides hands-on exposure to large-scale design projects for senior living residential real estate and will support projects from design development through installation and closeout. The intern will work closely with Catie Underhill and the broader Design team while gaining practical experience in sourcing, documentation, field coordination, vendor communication, and project execution. This is a field-based role requiring a home office and residence in Northern California or Southern California, with travel to properties within the assigned region as needed.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nParticipate in and support the design team through all phases of multiple design projects, from design development through construction management and installation.\nAssist with sourcing furniture, fabrics, fixtures, and finishes in line with project needs, the design team’s vision, and project budget.\nDevelop furniture, fabric, finish, and material studies for in-house designers.\nAssist in preparing and maintaining finish schedules, specifications, furnishing budgets, product logs, and shop drawings.\nCoordinate with architects, contractors, vendors, and operator partners to support project execution.\nAssist with scheduling installations, field verification, and punch-list completion.\nAttend and support design presentations, progress meetings, frame walks, installations, final walks, and follow-up meetings.\nMaintain project documentation and records and assist with vendor invoice coordination and payment documentation.\nBuild productive relationships with the Design team, design showrooms, vendors, consultants, and operator partners.\nStay current with design trends, materials, building codes, regulations, and industry standards relevant to residential, hospitality, and commercial design.\nUse and continue developing proficiency in one or more of the following: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Revit, Microsoft Office, SketchUp, and Design Manager.\nEscalate project issues requiring design decisions to the Interior Design Manager.\nAssist the VP of Design and the broader Design team with special design projects as necessary.\nOTHER DUTIES\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of this employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.\nTRAVEL\nThis role may require regular travel (up to 50%) to properties throughout Northern and Southern California, as well as occasional travel to regional offices, design showrooms, vendor locations, and project installations as needed.\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nCurrently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Interior Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related field; students who have not yet completed their degree are encouraged to apply.\nPrior professional design experience is not required; relevant coursework, design studio experience, internships, or project-based experience is preferred.\nInterest in hospitality, multi-family, commercial, or senior living design; prior senior living design experience is not required.\nWorking knowledge of, or coursework using, design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and SketchUp is preferred.\nBasic understanding of building codes and ADA/accessibility principles is preferred; willingness to learn is required.\nStrong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.\nStrong organization, multitasking, prioritization, and deadline-management skills, with attention to detail and a willingness to take initiative.\nValid driver’s license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight trips and flights, as required for project work.\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of this employee for this job. The range for this role in this market is $27.25 to $32.75/hr.
