The role leads the maintenance team and is responsible for department budgets, capital planning, regulatory compliance, technical standards, staffing decisions, preventive maintenance programs, and the safe and efficient operation of hotel infrastructure, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, plumbing, electrical systems, equipment, and building structures.\nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nSet the department’s priorities, service standards, technical standards, and annual operating plan to support safe, reliable, and efficient hotel operations.\nPrepare, manage, and execute the operating and capital budgets, including cost controls, forecasting, resource allocation, and approval of significant maintenance expenditures and work.\nDevelop capital plans and lead capital projects and property rehabilitations, including scope, scheduling, budgeting, contractor selection, bidding requirements, and communication with affected stakeholders.\nMaintain overall accountability for preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment inspections, facility assessments, maintenance records, and the resolution of identified deficiencies.\nMonitor the work-order/internal maintenance tracking system, ensuring priorities, service levels, documentation standards, and completion expectations are consistently met.\nEstablish technical standards for repairs and maintenance involving guest rooms, kitchens, restaurants, laundry equipment, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, appliances, and building infrastructure.\nDetermine when work should be completed internally or coordinated with West Edmonton Mall trades departments, external contractors, or other technical specialists.\nLead workforce planning and make staffing decisions for the department, including hiring, scheduling, training, performance management, employee development, and discipline in partnership with Human Resources.\nProvide direction, coaching, feedback, and performance reviews to the maintenance team and ensure clear accountability for assigned work.\nMaintain overall accountability for compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local requirements, including health and safety standards, codes, licenses, permits, inspections, and required maintenance records.\nRepresent the department on the Hotel Safety Committee and ensure maintenance-related hazards, irregularities, and corrective actions are appropriately addressed.\nReview department performance, operational risks, maintenance trends, budget results, and outstanding work, and implement improvements where required.\nMaintain a flexible schedule to meet hotel business and emergency-response needs.\nOther responsibilities as required.\nDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nMinimum of three to five years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.\nOne to two years of supervisory or leadership experience in a maintenance or facilities role.\nFourth Class Power Engineer certification or certification in a similar trade.\nStrong knowledge of plumbing systems.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.\nAbility to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., as well as work at heights when required.\nExperience using computerized maintenance management systems.\nTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:\nThis full-time position requires a flexible schedule to support the operational needs of the hotel, including availability on weekends and holidays as required.\nThis is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications.\nMust be able to pass a basic security clearance.\nThis position may be eligible for participation in our 4-day work week program, subject to operational
