We work together to enhance peoples' lives through our products and presence in the communities in which we operate.\nJOB SUMMARY\nThe HSE Specialist coordinates site activities required for compliance with safety programs and policies including recordkeeping, training, and inspection. This person trains, coaches and leads personnel in the use of Risk Control/Risk Reduction principles and methodologies to provide a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace. The responsibility of ensuring compliance with Company, OSHA, Local, State and Federal regulations and standards is inherent to this position. This person communicates with other company owned facilities, including corporate HSE managers. The HSE must build positive working relationships and act as a contact for leaders and employees within the assigned client group. This position must work in a team environment and have personal accountability.\nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nDuties may include, but are not limited to the following and will also be tailored area of focus (Occupational Safety), or a combination of focus areas:\nComply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures.\nConduct site wide training on Westlake safety policies and procedures.\nConduct new hire/visitor safety orientation.\nDevelop and maintain knowledge of company systems. \nAssist site management in completion of incident reports and investigations.\nDevelop job-specific safety training to meet site needs.\nProvide technical advising in support of safety committee activities.\nMaintain safety records for the assigned plant.\nMaintain and promote KPI programs.\nTrain and certify mobile equipment operators.\nManage site SDS library.\nMaintain audit systems through completion of HSE calendar.\nAnalyze and perform root cause analysis on injury and near misses.\nParticipate in Gemba walks and address findings with site management. \nPerform other duties as assigned or needed.\nEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field. CSP or CIH certified professional preferred.\n1 - 3 years' experience in a relevant field, Manufacturing experience preferred.\nConsistently demonstrate the following Westlake Workplace Behaviors: Instill Trust, Work with Vision and Purpose, Plan-Align-Analyze, Communicate effectively and Drive Results. \nIntermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint\nStrong organizational skills, detailed oriented, self-motivated, and ability to multi-task.\nStrong professional communication skills, both verbal and in writing.\nKnowledge of all safety and environmental programs.\nOur compensation structure reflects the cost of labor across several US markets. The pay range, $75,000 - $80,000 per year DOE, is based on market data in our lowest and highest geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, experience, and skillset. Westlake is a total compensation company.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and climb; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently make minor decisions requiring limited judgement, general decisions in the absence of specific directions, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT\nThe noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.
