As a result, Westminster continues to be recognized for its excellence in higher education as one of the best small liberal arts colleges in the Midwest.\nThe Security Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for providing first-line supervision of Security Officers while actively participating in daily campus security operations. Supervisory responsibilities include reviewing incident reports and activity logs, verifying completion of patrols, checkpoints, and assigned duties, monitoring officer performance, and ensuring appropriate staffing coverage.\nSecurity operations are conducted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The position may require days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events based upon operational and staffing needs. This position is expected to regularly work patrol shifts in place of Security Officers as part of the normal staffing schedule. The Security Supervisor will also serve as the first line fill-in for open shifts caused by illness, vacation, vacancies, call-offs, or other staffing shortages. Maintaining security coverage is a primary responsibility of this position and will require flexibility in scheduled days and hours.\nRequirements\nEssential Functions:\nThe statements below are intended to describe the principal duties of the person assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities.\nServes as the first-line supervisor for Security Officers and provides routine direction, guidance, and support.\nRegularly works scheduled Security Officer patrol shifts as part of the department's normal staffing and coverage plan.\nServes as the primary staffing resource for open Security Officer shifts caused by illness, vacation, vacancies, call-offs, or other staffing shortages.\nAdjusts scheduled days and working hours when necessary to maintain required campus security coverage.\nMonitors staffing schedules, leave, and anticipated vacancies and works with Security Department leadership to address coverage needs.\nReviews incident reports, daily activity logs, call logs, and other documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with department requirements.\nMonitors and verifies completion of required patrols, scan points, checkpoints, building checks, unlocks, lockups, and other assigned duties.\nIdentifies missed assignments, incomplete documentation, and performance concerns and addresses routine issues directly with officers.\nCommunicates significant or repeated performance concerns to the Assistant Director or Director.\nProvides routine coaching, training, and on-the-job guidance to Security Officers and assists with training new officers.\nProvides direction and assistance to officers during incidents and ensures appropriate notifications are made.\nEnsures officers follow College policies, Security Department procedures, post orders, emergency procedures, and supervisory directions.\nWhile working patrol coverage, performs the full duties of a Security Officer, including patrols, calls for service, emergency response, access control, building checks, unlocks and lockups, incident reporting, and event security.\nAssists with accountability of Security Department vehicles, radios, keys, access credentials, and other equipment.\nParticipates in required training, meetings, emergency preparedness activities, and special events.\nPerforms other supervisory, security, safety, emergency response, and College-related duties as assigned.\nProvides direct first-line supervision of Security Officers and addresses routine operational and performance concerns. The Supervisor provides input regarding officer performance, training, scheduling, and assignments.\nSignificant personnel concerns and formal disciplinary matters are referred to the Assistant Director or Director in accordance with College procedures.\nJob Requirements:\nEducation: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or training in criminal justice, emergency management, security, leadership, or a related field preferred.\nExperience: Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet College requirements for operating College vehicles. Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, higher education, or a related field required. Supervisory, leadership, or training experience preferred.\nSkills:\n Must possess effective communication, leadership, organizational, and report-writing skills.
