This role involves working closely with teams and stakeholders, with regular face-to-face meetings and collaboration, making an in-office presence important.\nWhat’s the role?\nAs a Principal Engineer, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership for Communication Intelligence, shaping the architecture, engineering practices and capabilities that support timely, secure and reliable customer communications across multiple channels. You’ll work across customer engagement platforms, data, decisioning, integrations and operational services, guiding teams from architecture through to production.\nAdditionally, you’ll design reusable APIs, event patterns, platform services and automation, while improving scalability, observability, resilience and traceability. You’ll help modernise the communication ecosystem, reduce reliance on legacy platforms and strengthen security, privacy, consent and governance across the communication lifecycle.\nYou will lead key technical decisions, drive engineering standards and support major incident resolution. You’ll also mentor senior engineers, partner with Product, Data, Cyber, Risk and Architecture teams, and explore AI and automation opportunities to improve engineering productivity, operational efficiency and customer communication delivery.\nWhat do I need?\nStrong full-stack engineering experience, with hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot and TypeScript are essential. \nDeep experience designing and building large-scale, distributed enterprise platforms supporting high-volume, business-critical services. \nStrong knowledge of event-driven and API-first architectures, including streaming, asynchronous processing, integrations and failure handling. \nExperience with cloud and platform engineering, including containerised workloads, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and automation. \nExperience designing and implementing Agentic AI and intelligent automation, including AI agents and automated workflows in enterprise environments. \nStrong understanding of observability, reliability and resilience, including monitoring, performance, incident management and disaster recovery. \nProven technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, with the ability to remain hands-on, review code, influence architecture and mentor senior engineers.\nWhy join us?\nWe’re obsessed with becoming our customers #1 banking partner for life and we’re looking for people who are passionate about helping us achieve that goal.
