You’ll lead 3 to 6 direct reports while designing, building and running AI agents, shared platforms, APIs and enterprise integrations. You’ll work across agent orchestration, tool calling, RAG, evaluation, observability and guardrails, taking complex capabilities from experimentation through to production. You’ll also coach engineers, lead design and code reviews and strengthen engineering practices across AI and LLM operations.\nThis is a hybrid role within Technology and CIO DDAI, preferably based in Sydney, Warrane, Gadigal Country, or Melbourne, Naarm, Wurundjeri Country. Other locations may be considered by agreement\nWhat do I need?\nStrong coding fundamentals, with experience producing clean, well tested production code and designing, reviewing and evolving enterprise software.\nHands on experience building generative AI applications or agents and running software in production, including deployment, observability, operational support and end to end ownership.\nWorking knowledge of AWS and Azure, including Kubernetes such as AKS and EKS, containers and cloud networking, together with knowledge of APIs, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, identity and failure handling.\nThe ability to diagnose complex issues across code, models, data, networks and infrastructure, supported by sound engineering judgement, problem solving, learning agility, clear communication and collaboration.\nAn understanding of secure engineering, Responsible AI and guardrails.\nExperience with Python, FastAPI, PydanticAI, OpenAI Agents SDK, Google ADK, LlamaIndex or similar is highly regarded, as is experience with CI/CD, IaC, OpenTelemetry, MCP, RAG, vector search, evaluation or AI observability.
