The role will require 4 days a week in the multi-discipline office located at the construction site for a minimum of 18 consecutive months. From this location the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for completing the field reviews on the project and become the primary contact for all mechanical inquiries from the GC (our client), the Trade Partner and Owner. The position requires effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, Owner and external agencies.\n\nThe Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning and conducting assignments with a high level of specialization and autonomy. The intent is to have this individual service our industrial and institutional projects in the London area from Sarnia in the North to Windsor in the South. This project provides an opportunity to significantly grow our market presence in the London area of South-West Ontario and to build a team to support the execution of these projects which results from growth in this geographic market.\n\nThis role is open to candidates currently residing in or interested in working from the London or St. Thomas area.\n\nWhat You Will Do \nPlan and conduct complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision, applying extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering and its impact on other disciplines, as well as National and Provincial Building Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, FM Global and other relevant codes and standards.\nModify established guidelines and devise new approaches to meet project requirements. Apply existing criteria in innovative ways and draw conclusions from comparative situations.\nSolve unique design and engineering issues through innovative approaches or criteria application.\nCoordinate complex tasks, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.\nDemonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate the work of engineers and designers.\nManage mid-sized to large projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and performance objectives for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems in various projects.\nPrepare field review reports, recommend design changes, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work.\nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, Owners, and external agencies. Those agencies are anticipated to include:\nProcess Engineers\nContractors\nAuthorities having jurisdiction\nDiscuss design problems, explain design features and specifications.\nEstablish and maintain client contacts. Develop those contacts into client relationships that lead to repeat work and organic business growth.\nCommunicate with clients to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions. \nMentor and support the technical and professional development of junior staff assigned to projects. As client demand increases, manage a team of up to 8 staff.\nAssist with projects as assigned by supervisors to support the overall success of the team and company objectives. This is assistance is anticipated to include delegation of tasks to those junior staff assigned in addition to the execution of tasks themselves.\nDemonstrate a commitment to company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community, integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.\nModel effective leadership behaviors, including accountability, clear communication, and sound decision-making.\nParticipate in team planning, resourcing strategies, and hiring decisions for those in their team. \nFoster a collaborative team culture focused on quality, accountability, and professional development.\nWork regularly from the office alongside the project team to support collaboration, mentoring, and deliver an excellent client experience (with flexibility for hybrid work).\nWhat You Bring to the Table\nBachelor’s degree in engineering. \nProfessional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification required.\nMinimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering role within the construction industry, preferably as a consulting engineer. \nStrong knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and best practices.\nProven ability to solve complex engineering problems using innovative approaches.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and external agencies.\nProject management experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage projects with a mechanical contract value in the range of $5,000,000 and $40,000,000.\nLife at WalterFedy \nAs a national, innovative, multi-discipline design and construction collective, our ambition goes beyond great design – we are here to enhance the world around us.
