This role involves solving complex engineering problems, modifying established guidelines, and applying mature engineering knowledge to improve design standards, reduce costs, and enhance work quality. The position requires effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, and external agencies.\nWhat you will do\nPlan and conduct complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision, applying extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering and its impact on other disciplines, as well as National and Provincial Building Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards.\nModify established guidelines and devise new approaches to meet project requirements. Apply existing criteria in innovative ways and draw conclusions from comparative situations.\nDevelop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower costs and enhance work quality.\nSolve unique design and engineering issues through innovative approaches or criteria application.\nInitiate and develop guidelines and investigations for other team members to enhance problem-solving capabilities.\nCoordinate complex tasks, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.\nDemonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate the work of engineers and designers.\nManage mid-sized to large projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and performance objectives for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems in various projects.\nPrepare progress reports, recommend design changes, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work.\nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external agencies.\nDiscuss design problems, explain design features and specifications, and outline project control criteria.\nEstablish and maintain client contacts to seek or provide technical information related to projects.\nCommunicate with clients to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions. \nMentor and support the technical and professional development of junior staff assigned to projects.\nAssist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.\nDemonstrate a commitment to company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community, integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.\nDevelop strong client relationships that lead to repeat work and organic business growth.\nModel effective leadership behaviors, including accountability, clear communication, and sound decision-making.\nDemonstrate ability to train junior to intermediate engineers and designers.\nAs client demand increases, manage a team of up to 8 mechanical engineering professionals.\nParticipate in team planning, resourcing strategies, and hiring decisions for those in their team. \nFoster a collaborative team culture focused on quality, accountability, and professional development.\nContribute to business growth by securing repeat work and new opportunities through strong technical delivery, client relationships, and reputation for excellence.\nWork regularly from the office alongside the project team to support collaboration, mentoring, and delivery excellence (with flexibility for hybrid work).\n\nWhat you bring to the table \nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.\nProfessional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification required.\nMinimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering role, preferably within a consulting environment.\nStrong knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and best practices.\nProven ability to solve complex engineering problems using innovative approaches.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and external agencies.\nProficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.\nProject management experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage mid-sized to large projects\n\nLife at WalterFedy \nAs a national, innovative, multi-discipline design and construction collective, our ambition goes beyond great design – we are here to enhance the world around us.
