This role inspects construction sites daily, works with vendors to schedule deliveries, and ensures that materials arrive on time. The Field Engineer tracks and records site conditions, project progress, earthwork balances, and trucking and aggregate deliveries, and reports project issues, scope changes, and opportunities to the Project Manager for review. This position works to ensure that all state, federal, and industry codes and specifications are followed, reports any deviations to management, and assists in implementing corrections. Operating across Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon, and beyond, our companies are united by four core values - Value Safety, Embrace Ownership, Be Honorable, and Elevate Team - which guide how we work, how we treat each other, and how we deliver quality results on some of the most challenging projects in the region.\nRoles and Responsibilities:\nIncluding but not limited to the list below.\nChampion the Company’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values in every action and decision: Value Safety, Embrace Ownership, Be Honorable, and Elevate Team.\nProvide support to foremen, superintendents, and the Project Manager regarding project material controls, including delivery dates, construction schedules, and design requirements, to ensure additional costs are minimized.\nWork with the Project Manager to maintain business and work plans.\nMaintain and track all field-related action items such as minutes of contractor safety meetings, superintendent daily reports, weather logs, punch list activities, delays, NCRs, and PCOs, and verify completion.\nParticipate in daily Teambook safety meetings.\nUtilize software management tools to maintain all project documentation.\nRecord and track statistics relative to materials and quantities.\nTrack and manage all components of trucking and hauling with accuracy in quantities, coding, time, and measurement.\nCatalog project closeout materials, O&M manuals, and redlines to the owner once the project is complete.\nUnderstand and obtain all necessary work permits.\nSchedule, receive, and verify material deliveries.\nVerify shipping invoices match what is delivered to the site.\nMaintain an up-to-date inventory list of materials on hand.\nHelp superintendents and foremen track costs correctly by providing accurate job numbers and phase codes.\nMeasure work and provide final quantities for invoicing and reporting to the customer.\nVerify the billing of equipment on site against weekly reports provided by the equipment department and correct any variances.\nReport any field discrepancies to the Project Manager for review.\nTake photos, record field progress, and file findings for future reference.\nOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.\nSkills and Qualifications:\n1-3 years of prior construction site work experience is a plus. Specific experience in earthwork and/or utility construction is preferred.\nKnowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures related to heavy civil construction.\nStrong organizational and time management skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels, from clients and management to workers and subcontractors.\nAbility to read and understand plans and specifications.\nStrong attention to detail with the ability to recognize and correct discrepancies.\nStrong work ethic and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.\nAbility to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.\nProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.\nUnderstanding of Viewpoint, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project scheduling software, and Bid2Win is a plus.\nValid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.\nPhysical Requirements:\nAble and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.\nAble to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.\nAble to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.\nAbility to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.\nWhitaker Construction offers an exceptional benefits package including:\nEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
