Our corporate philosophy allows us to develop skills, collaborate alongside our teammates, and ultimately have a fulfilling career.\nPosition Summary\nThe Field Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of oil and gas production facilities, wells, pipelines, and associated equipment. The Field Operator performs routine inspections, monitors operating conditions, identifies and responds to equipment issues, and ensures production activities are conducted in accordance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and health, safety, and environmental standards.\nThe position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, sound decision-making, and the ability to work independently in a field environment while maintaining effective communication with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other support teams.\nKey Roles & Responsibilities\n1. Production Operations\nOperate and monitor oil and gas wells, batteries, compressors, pumps, separators, tanks, pipelines, and related production equipment.\n\nMonitor pressures, temperatures, flow rates, levels, and other operating parameters.\n\nOptimize equipment and production processes to maintain safe and efficient production.\n\nPerform routine start-up, shutdown, and changeover procedures.\n\nIdentify abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate corrective action.\n\nMaintain production within established operating limits and targets.\n\nMonitor and manage fluid levels, tank inventories, chemical systems, and produced-water handling.\n\n2. Field Inspections & Equipment Monitoring\nConduct scheduled field rounds and inspections of wells, facilities, equipment, and pipelines.\n\nIdentify leaks, equipment damage, abnormal noises, vibration, corrosion, or other potential failures.\n\nVerify equipment is operating correctly and report deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.\n\nPerform routine housekeeping and maintain a clean and organized work area.\n\nCheck safety systems, alarms, emergency shutdown systems, fire protection equipment, and other critical equipment.\n\n3. Troubleshooting & Maintenance Support\nTroubleshoot operating problems and make adjustments within the scope of the position.\n\nAssist maintenance personnel with equipment isolation, lockout/tagout, and preparation for maintenance activities.\n\nProvide accurate information to maintenance and technical personnel regarding equipment condition and operating history.\n\nPerform minor maintenance activities and equipment adjustments where authorized.\n\nMonitor equipment following maintenance to ensure it is returned to normal operating condition.\n\n4. Safety & Environmental Responsibilities\nFollow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.\n\nParticipate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and job safety analyses.\n\nMaintain awareness of potential hazards including H₂S, hydrocarbons, pressure, confined spaces, electrical hazards, and rotating equipment.\n\nFollow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), isolation, and energy-control procedures.\n\nRespond appropriately to alarms, emergencies, spills, releases, and other abnormal situations.\n\nReport incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental concerns.\n\nMaintain compliance with environmental requirements and spill-prevention procedures.\n\nUse required personal protective equipment (PPE).\n\n5. Process & Production Monitoring\nRecord and verify production volumes and operating data.\n\nMonitor SCADA, PLC, control systems, gauges, meters, and local instrumentation as applicable.\n\nIdentify trends that may indicate declining production, equipment problems, or process upsets.\n\nCollect samples and perform routine checks as required.\n\nVerify meters, gauges, and instrumentation are functioning properly and report discrepancies.\n\n6. Well & Facility Operations\nMonitor producing wells and associated wellhead equipment.\n\nPerform routine well checks and adjustments within approved operating procedures.\n\nMonitor artificial-lift equipment such as pumps, compressors, or other lift systems where applicable.\n\nOperate valves and process equipment according to established procedures.\n\nAssist with well servicing, workovers, commissioning, and facility shutdown/start-up activities.\n\nMaintain proper equipment lineups and verify valve positions.\n\n7. Documentation & Communication\nComplete daily field logs, inspection reports, production reports, and equipment records.\n\nDocument operating abnormalities, maintenance requirements, and corrective actions.\n\nCommunicate effectively with control room operators, supervisors, maintenance personnel, engineers, contractors, and other field staff.\n\nProvide shift handovers containing accurate and relevant operational information.\n\nMaintain accurate records of production, equipment status, chemical usage, and field activities.\n\n8. Emergency Response\nRespond to emergency situations in accordance with company emergency response procedures.\n\nRecognize and respond to hydrocarbon releases, fires, H₂S alarms, equipment failures, pressure-related events, and other hazards.\n\nActivate emergency shutdown systems when required.\n\nAssist with site evacuation, muster, spill response, and emergency communication procedures.\n\nParticipate in emergency response drills and training.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nPrevious experience in oil and gas production, field operations, or a related industrial environment.\n\nStrong mechanical aptitude and understanding of oil and gas production equipment.\n\nAbility to read and understand P&IDs, equipment manuals, operating procedures, and site drawings.\n\nKnowledge of production processes, valves, pumps, compressors, separators, tanks, pipelines, and instrumentation.\n\nStrong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.\n\nAbility to identify hazards and work safely around pressurized equipment and hydrocarbons.\n\nValid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote field locations.\n\nAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.\n\nAbility to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nOil and gas field operator certification or technical training.\n\nPrevious experience with SCADA and computerized control systems.\n\nExperience with artificial lift systems.\n\nH₂S Alive or equivalent certification.\n\nFirst Aid/CPR certification.\n\nTDG/WHMIS training.\n\nConfined Space and Fall Protection training.\n\nExperience with LOTO and energy-isolation procedures.\n\nPrevious experience operating heavy equipment or mobile equipment, where applicable.\n\nCore Competencies\nSafety-focused mindset\n\nStrong mechanical aptitude\n\nTroubleshooting and problem-solving\n\nAttention to detail\n\nSituational awareness\n\nEffective communication\n\nAbility to work independently\n\nTeamwork and collaboration\n\nSound judgment and decision-making\n\nAbility to prioritize competing operational requirements\n\nStrong documentation and reporting skills\n\nReliability and accountability\n\nWorking Conditions\nThe Field Operator works primarily in outdoor and industrial environments and may be required to work in remote locations, adverse weather conditions, and around operating oil and gas equipment.\nThis position is based in a remote operating area and is designated as either a camp-based position or requires the successful candidate to reside in Grande Cache, Alberta.
