We are building the infrastructure for the next generation of internet entrepreneurs, and we will keep going until one billion people earn money on Whop every month.\nThe role\nWhop is looking for a hands-on Finance Systems Engineer to build the systems and automations that help Accounting close faster, operate with fewer manual touchpoints, and maintain strong financial controls as the company scales.\nYou will work directly with accounting process owners to understand how transactions enter our systems, flow into the general ledger, reconcile to source data, and become financial reporting. You will then redesign inefficient processes and build reliable, production-ready solutions.\nThis role owns outcomes, not just tickets. You will take projects from problem discovery and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and user adoption.\nAccounting will retain ownership of accounting policy, judgments, and final financial sign-off. You will own the systems, data flows, automation, and technical controls that enable those decisions.\nWhat you’ll do\nAccelerate the close\nMap the close process, identify its critical path, and build a prioritized automation roadmap.\n\nAutomate recurring reconciliations, journal-entry support, accrual calculations, cash activity, intercompany matching, prepaid and fixed-asset schedules, and close reporting.\n\nReplace spreadsheet handoffs with controlled, repeatable workflows and exception-based review.\n\nBuild dashboards and alerts that provide real-time visibility into close status, open items, dependencies, and risk areas.\n\nMeasure close-cycle time, manual effort, exception rates, rework, and post-close adjustments to demonstrate impact.\n\nOwn finance systems and integrations\nOwn the configuration, reliability, and evolution of the core finance technology stack, including our new NetSuite ERP, procure-to-pay and expense, payments and billing, payroll and HRIS, close-management, and data and reporting systems.\n\nDesign and maintain integrations using APIs, webhooks, workflow platforms, and data pipelines.\n\nEstablish clear systems of record, canonical definitions, master-data standards, and ownership for critical financial data.\n\nLead implementations and enhancements from requirements gathering through solution design, testing, UAT, deployment, training, and production support.\n\nWork with Engineering and Data teams when a solution requires shared infrastructure or deeper product integration.\n\nBuild reliable, audit-ready automation\nBuild source-to-target control totals, completeness checks, duplicate detection, data validations, and automated tie-outs into financial data flows.\n\nMaintain logging, lineage, approval history, and supporting evidence so automated processes remain understandable and auditable.\n\nApply disciplined access, segregation-of-duties, change-management, testing, and release practices.\n\nMonitor integrations and workflows for failures, investigate root causes, and implement durable fixes.\n\nUse AI where it provides measurable value, with appropriate human review, quality gates, permissions, and audit trails. Financially significant decisions should never depend on an unmonitored black box.\n\nPartner and drive adoption\nTranslate accounting requirements into technical designs and technical constraints into clear business tradeoffs.\n\nMaintain a transparent roadmap prioritized by time saved, financial risk, control improvement, and implementation effort.\n\nCreate architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, process documentation, operating procedures, and support playbooks.\n\nTrain Finance users and build self-service capabilities where appropriate.\n\nEvaluate vendors and new tools, while favoring durable improvements over unnecessary additions to the technology stack.\n\nWhat success looks like\nThe monthly close becomes faster and more predictable, with fewer manual handoffs and late surprises.\n\nA growing percentage of reconciliations and close activities operate through automated, exception-based workflows.\n\nFinancial integrations are monitored, documented, and do not fail silently.\n\nAutomated outputs tie back to complete source populations and the general ledger.\n\nThe Accounting team spends less time gathering and manipulating data and more time reviewing results and resolving meaningful exceptions.\n\nAuditors can follow system logic, approvals, data lineage, and control evidence without extensive manual reconstruction.\n\nFinance has a clear, prioritized systems roadmap supported by measurable results.\n\nWhat you bring\nFive or more years of experience across finance systems, business applications, ERP implementation, data engineering, or financial-process automation.\n\nA demonstrated record of shipping automation that Finance or Accounting teams use in production.\n\nStrong understanding of core accounting processes, including the general ledger, debits and credits, journal entries, reconciliations, record-to-report, procure-to-pay, and the monthly close.\n\nStrong SQL skills and working proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or another relevant scripting language.\n\nExperience designing or supporting integrations through APIs, webhooks, middleware, iPaaS platforms, or ETL/ELT pipelines.\n\nHands-on experience with a cloud ERP or general-ledger platform such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Workday Financials, Oracle, SAP, or an equivalent system.\n\nExperience with testing, version control, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and technical documentation.\n\nUnderstanding of internal controls, financial data integrity, access governance, and audit requirements.\n\nAbility to communicate clearly with accountants, engineers, executives, auditors, and external vendors.\n\nStrong ownership and judgment: you can distinguish between a process problem, configuration problem, integration problem, and situation that genuinely requires custom software.\n\nNice to have\nExperience in a high-growth fintech, marketplace, payments, SaaS, or other high-volume transaction environment.\n\nExperience with multi-entity, multi-currency, or international accounting systems.\n\nFamiliarity with tools such as Ramp, Stripe, Zip, Coupa, FloQast, BlackLine, Workato, Snowflake, BigQuery, or dbt.\n\nExperience building controlled AI or document-processing workflows for accounting.\n\nSOX, ITGC, audit-readiness, or public-company experience.\n\nExperience building lightweight internal applications for Finance users.\n\nCPA, CMA, systems certification, or equivalent accounting training.
