The Industrial Maintenance Apprentice is a full-time, earn-and-learn position designed for students enrolled in the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program. Apprentices will divide their time between classroom instruction and hands-on learning in a manufacturing environment, working approximately 24 hours per week while attending school approximately 16 hours per week.\nThis position provides a structured pathway to develop industrial maintenance skills through a combination of classroom education and supervised on-the-job training. Apprentices will work alongside experienced maintenance technicians to learn mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and troubleshooting skills necessary to maintain safe and reliable plant operations. Continued employment in the program requires satisfactory academic performance, consistent school attendance, and reliable workplace attendance. This role is located in Shelbyville, KY and will be fully on-site.\nPay Schedule: Weekly\nResponsibilities\nIndustrial Maintenance Apprentice Responsibilities:\nLearning and Development\nSuccessfully participate in all FAME coursework, labs, projects, and required training.\nDemonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and skill development.\nApply classroom concepts to real-world maintenance activities.\nComplete assigned training modules and qualification requirements.\nWork under the guidance of experienced maintenance technicians and supervisors.\nPreventive Maintenance\nAssist with preventive and predictive maintenance activities on production equipment.\nSupport inspections of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.\nLearn proper lubrication practices and equipment care techniques.\nAssist with routine equipment checks and maintenance documentation.\nParticipate in scheduled maintenance shutdowns and improvement projects.\nMechanical Maintenance\nLearn to inspect, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and equipment.\nAssist with equipment alignment, component replacement, and mechanical adjustments.\nSupport maintenance activities involving conveyor systems, pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, cylinders, and material handling equipment.\nDevelop skills in fabrication, basic welding, rigging, and pipefitting under supervision.\nLearn to read and interpret mechanical drawings, diagrams, and work instructions.\nElectrical Maintenance\nAssist with troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems under qualified supervision.\nLearn to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.\nSupport installation and repair activities involving motors, sensors, switches, control devices, and plant equipment.\nLearn basic PLC concepts and how automated systems control manufacturing equipment.\nAssist with equipment inspections to identify electrical hazards or maintenance needs.\nSafety and Reliability\nFollow all safety policies, procedures, and environmental requirements.\nUse proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.\nMaintain clean and organized work areas.\nParticipate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement activities.\nReport unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and maintenance issues promptly.\nTeamwork and Professionalism\nWork effectively with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel.\nDemonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn.\nMaintain accurate maintenance records and training documentation.\nExhibit professionalism both in the workplace and the classroom.\nPerform other learning assignments and duties as required to support operational needs.\nIndustrial Maintenance Apprentice Qualifications:\nCurrently enrolled in or accepted into an approved FAME Industrial Maintenance program.\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nStrong desire to pursue a career in industrial maintenance.\nBasic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial equipment.\nAbility to learn technical concepts and apply them in a manufacturing environment.\nAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively.\nBasic computer skills.\nAbility to work safely in an industrial environment.\nProgram Expectations:\nTo remain employed as an Industrial Maintenance Apprentice, participants must:\nMaintain satisfactory academic performance in the FAME program.\nMaintain acceptable attendance in all scheduled classes.\nMaintain acceptable attendance and punctuality at work.\nSuccessfully complete required coursework, work assignments, and training milestones.\nDemonstrate progress toward developing maintenance technician competencies.\nAdhere to all company policies, safety requirements, and FAME program expectations.\nPreferred Characteristics\nStrong problem-solving ability.\nMechanical curiosity and desire to understand how equipment operates.\nDependability and accountability.\nPositive attitude and strong work ethic.\nAbility to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.\nCommitment to long-term career growth in industrial maintenance.\nQualifications\nJoining Wieland’s team gives you…\nBenefits - Starting on Day 1!
