  • Focus on value-added strategies and tactics that support the delivery of editorial decisions, including speed to decision, the quality of the author experience, and the integrity of manuscripts and the workflows underpinning the peer review process.
  • Seek guidance on remedial action plans, as appropriate.

Peer Review Management

  • Provide journal-level oversight of the manuscript peer review process, from submission through final editorial decision and export to Content Operations, for a portfolio of Research Publishing journals, using best-practice principles and effective time-management practices.
  • Maintain oversight of accurate documentation for the peer review management process.
  • Identify and escalate integrity concerns, and implement outcomes from investigations as needed.
  • Adopt new services and tools when introduced, and implement enhanced workflows as they are rolled out.

Editor and Editorial Office Performance Management

  • Monitor and manage the performance of editors, editorial office administrators, and vendor-partner editorial assistants, and provide feedback.
  • Communicate and manage expected behaviours and KPIs against established benchmarks.
  • Handle performance-related queries and escalations.
  • Assess insights from self-service reports and analyses provided by editorial data analysts to continuously improve performance.
  • Ensure that editors and administrators follow established best practices and workflows.
  • Ensure that editors demonstrate expected behaviours, including adherence to the code of conduct.
  • Implement remedial actions or retraining for editors who do not meet performance expectations.
  • Implement remedial actions or initiate retraining for editorial office administrators or vendor-partner editorial assistants when expectations are not consistently met.
  • Share insights about consistently poor editor performance with Publishing Development and/or Partner Publishing colleagues.
  • Seek guidance on remedial action plans and support with enforcing alignment, as appropriate.

Optimization and Harmonization

  • Review and optimize journal workflows, ensuring alignment with peer review best practices and standards, and implement changes that improve efficiency and standardization.
  • Communicate and implement opportunities identified through audits or data-driven improvement projects led by Publishing Operations or Editorial Excellence.
  • Implement journal-level changes.
  • Support transitions between editorial office models and onboard new partners moving to Wiley Peer Review Management.
  • Contribute to accurate product data masters by recording journal-level changes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to achieve departmental and customer-focused goals and objectives.
  • Partner with editorial data analysts to advance improvements based on data-driven approaches and insights.
  • Work with Research Publishing colleagues on journal-specific strategic initiatives and relationship management, and provide information and data to support improvements at the journal level.
  • Contribute to relevant projects, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting peer review, editorial operations, journal publishing, or a related environment.
  • Ability to monitor performance against KPIs, interpret data and reports, and translate insights into practical improvements.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple journals and priorities.
  • Effective communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
