Refill and clean restroom dispensers.\nEmpty and clean trash and recycling receptacles. Remove trash and recycling from the building.\nSweep, mop and burnish floors. Vacuum, spot clean and extract carpets.\nStrip, scrub and apply cleaners, sealers and finishes to hard surface floors.\nFollow all established workplace safety rules and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.\nResponsible for the orderliness and cleanliness of assigned housekeeping closets and equipment storage areas.\nPerform routine operator maintenance on power equipment and hand tools (e.g. empty, clean, rinse and wash; change belts, hoses, brushes and bags).\nRespond to tenant inquiries and requests for service.\nReport building damage or the need for building repairs.\nReport and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance.\nLock and unlock buildings as directed. Report unauthorized occupants or use.\nWork outside to remove snow, ice and debris from entrances, steps and sidewalks.\nWork overtime, as required, in support of summer operations\nJob Description:\nSalary: $32,240 (his position has an established starting rate)\nRequired Qualifications\nDemonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others, and to follow oral and written instructions.\nAbility to operate powered and non-powered cleaning equipment. Must be willing and able to learn the use of heavy floor care equipment.\nAbility to work with and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents, including dilution and dispensing systems.\nAbility to work outdoors in temperatures below 32 degrees and indoors above 90 degrees.\nAbility to stand for extended periods of time; lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.; tolerate frequent bending, stooping, and climbing stairs\nPreferred Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\nDemonstrated knowledge of commercial cleaning practices.\nPrevious experience working as a custodian is highly desirable.\nCommercial Cleaning experience is a plus.\nConditions of Employment\nThis is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.\nThis position is subject to overtime (both scheduled and unscheduled). This position may work a non-traditional schedule, typically weekends and holidays.\nFlexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate special events, emergencies, and/or unscheduled work assignments, which typically include working weekends, holidays.\nThis position will be required to wear personal protected equipment (PPE) during specific work duties as determined by the department.\nThe ability to stand for extended periods of time; lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.; tolerate frequent bending, stooping, and climbing stairs.\nThis position has been designated as essential and will require reporting to work when the university is officially closed.\nJob Duties\nPerform general custodial and cleaning duties in academic, auxiliary, athletic, administrative and/or residential facilities. (75%)\nClean, sanitize and maintain living, teaching, studying, work, research, and public spaces, inside, outside, and around campus facilities by following established practices and procedures.\nEmpty and clean trash and recycling receptacles. Remove trash and recycling from the building.\nClean, dust, and wipe fixtures, furniture, floors, surfaces, walls, and windows.\nRefill restroom dispensers.\nSweep, mop, and vacuum floors.\nStrip, clean, buff and apply floor cleaners, sealers, and finishes to hard surface floors.\nVacuum, spot clean, and extract carpets.\nUse power equipment and hand tools: vacuums, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, hands-free or pressure washers, brooms, buckets, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.\nUse step ladders, specialized cleaning tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) when required in work assignments.• Move furniture to facilitate deep cleaning and prepare floors for refinishing.\nPerform routine preventive maintenance on power equipment and hand tools, i.e., empty, clean, rinse, and wash; change belts, hoses, brushes, and bags; etc.\nResponsible for the orderliness/cleanliness of assigned housekeeping closets and equipment storage areas.\nFollow verbal and written instructions for the use and application of chemicals and supplies.\nResponsible for proper mixing, labeling, storing, and use of a variety of chemicals and cleaning agents.\nCheck, restock, and maintain supply levels.\nRespond to tenant inquiries and requests for service. (10%)\nReport building damage or the need for building repairs.\nWork closely with peers and customers to meet the needs of the area.\nResolve problems quickly and effectively.\nReport and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance.\nOutside Work (5%)\nWork outside to remove snow, ice, and debris from entrances, steps, and sidewalks, using various tools and products.\nClean exterior windows as directed.\nMaintain continuous control and accountability for assigned building keys.
