Job Summary\nIt is the responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Technician to collect laboratory specimens as requested. The specimens are analyzed according to laboratory standards, recorded accurately so that the best service possible is available to the physicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.\nII. Duties And Responsibilities\nCollects, receives and accessions a variety of specimens.\nPerforms and documents laboratory test and/or resul\nPerforms and records calibration according to policy.\nPerforms and records daily Quality Control and documentsany corrective action.\n\nPerforms and records maintenance procedures according to policy.\nPerforms basic clerical duties related to test data with notificationof critical values according to policy.\n\nPerforms and records analysis of proficiency tests according to policy.\nOther Responsibilities:\nMaintains assigned lab section to include QC, maintenance logs, inventory of supplies & procedure manuals.\nUpdates procedure manuals.\nComplies with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety and infection control.\nMaintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.\nComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.\nCompletes annual safety, infection control and educational requirements\n Is knowledgeable of the mission, ethics and goals of the department\n Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.\nTrains new MT or ML T employees.\nEmployee authorization for access to EPHI is determined by job function and is under the direction of his/her Department Director.\nEmployee will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may rise.\nIII. Education\nA.S. degree, MLT (ASCP) certification or MLT classification as recognized by GDCH with certification.\nLicensure: None\nEducation and/or In-services to verify ability to obtain specimens appropriately for the age of the patient\ni.e., Geriatrics, Pediatrics.\nCertification: ML T classification as recognized by ASCP, AAB or AMT.\nIV. Qualifications And Experience\nWith credentials and hospital orientation, entry level into position. Experience preferred.\nV.
