The role will represent Wood in the field and oversee the construction contractor’s mechanical and structural activities, with a strong focus on safe execution, quality, progress, productivity and Completions.\nThe successful candidate will oversee contractor activities within the assigned mechanical and structural work fronts. The Supervisor will check that work is properly planned, resourced and executed to approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, project procedures and the construction schedule. The contractor remains responsible for managing its own supervision, labour, construction methods and execution.\nThis vacancy is open to Namibian citizens only. Proof of Namibian citizenship will be required.\n Key responsibilities\nOversee the contractor’s daily mechanical and structural construction activities.\nConfirm that work is executed safely and in line with approved drawings, specifications, procedures and quality requirements.\nCheck that current Approved for Construction drawings and documents are being used at the work fronts.\nMonitor contractor supervision, labour, materials, plant and equipment against planned work and look-ahead schedules.\nMonitor progress and productivity and identify access constraints, design issues, material shortages and interface problems early.\nReview contractor method statements, risk assessments, work packs, lift plans and inspection and test plans as required.\nCoordinate with Construction Management, Engineering, Planning, HSE, Quality, Materials, Completions, Commissioning, vendors and other contractors.\nCarry out regular field surveillance and progressive punching throughout construction.\nCheck recently completed work, including the previous day’s work, and give the contractor prompt feedback on incomplete, defective or non-compliant work.\nRecord, track and verify close-out of punch items and recurring workmanship concerns.\nComplete Wood Daily Diaries and review contractor Daily Diaries for accuracy and completeness.\nMaintain clear records of progress, quantities, labour, equipment, productivity, delays, instructions and significant site events.\nWitness inspections and tests where assigned and support the close-out of quality issues and non-conformances.\nConfirm that red-line drawings, inspection records, test certificates and Completions documentation are compiled as the work progresses.\nSupport construction completion, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.\nExercise stop-work authority where there is an immediate risk to people, the environment, assets or quality.\nWork through the contractor’s authorised management and supervisors without taking over responsibility for the contractor’s workforce or construction execution.\nMechanical and structural scope\nStructural steel fabrication and erection.\nMechanical equipment and package installation.\nPlatework, bins, chutes, tanks and associated supports.\nConveyors and materials-handling equipment.\nPumps and other mechanical plant equipment.\nEquipment alignment, bolting, grouting and installation checks.\nAccess platforms, walkways, handrails and stairs.\nLifting, rigging and heavy installation activities.\nVendor package installation and technical support.\nPreservation and protection of equipment, materials and completed work.\nMechanical and structural punch-list close-out and construction support for testing and pre-commissioning.\n Qualifications and experience\nRelevant mechanical, structural, boilermaking, fitting, rigging or construction trade qualification, technical diploma or degree.\nAt least seven years of relevant site construction experience, preferably on mining, mineral processing, industrial plant or similar projects.\nPractical construction execution experience gained while working for a construction contractor, engineering contractor or project delivery organisation.\nExperience gained only in a client monitoring or inspection role will not be sufficient.\nGood knowledge of structural steel erection, mechanical equipment installation, platework and materials-handling systems.\nAble to read and understand construction drawings, equipment drawings, specifications and installation details.\nExperience overseeing construction contractors and coordinating work between disciplines.\nWorking knowledge of safe work controls, lifting activities, quality documentation, progress measurement and Completions systems.\nExperience with progressive punching, mechanical completion and pre-commissioning support.\nAble to prepare clear Daily Diaries, reports and construction records.\nComputer skills suitable for reporting, document control and project systems.\nPrevious mining or process plant construction experience will be an advantage.\nSkills and behaviour\nPractical, construction-focused and visible in the field.\nStrong safety and quality awareness.\nAble to identify construction problems and poor workmanship early.\nFirm, professional and fair when dealing with contractors.\nAble to challenge poor performance without taking over the contractor’s responsibilities.\nGood planning, coordination and problem-solving skills.\nClear spoken and written communication.\nAccurate with Daily Diaries and construction records.\nAble to work across disciplines, contractors and cultures.\nFocused on completing work safely, correctly and on time.\nEligibility and site requirements\nNamibian citizens only.
