Backed by $100M from Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Highland Europe, and others, we are building one of the defining companies in legal AI.\nThe role\nWe're looking for someone who lives at the intersection of design and code. You'll work directly with product and engineering to frame the problem, design the flows, then prototype, build, and polish the experiences that make Wordsmith feel effortless, even when the workflows underneath are anything but. This role suits someone who thinks like a designer and builds like an engineer, or the other way round.\nYou'll design products where the behaviour is not always fixed, the inputs are messy, and the outcome still has to feel simple and reliable. You'll own that outcome end to end, and you'll be trusted to run with it on your own.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign and build the UX and UI: the flows, components, and interactions that simplify complex legal workflows\n\nRapidly prototype new concepts in code to validate ideas before committing to a full build\n\nBridge design and engineering: turn designs into shipped code, and push design forward through technical craft\n\nOwn the quality of UI implementation across the product, from pixel-perfect execution to the small interactions that make it feel alive\n\nHelp define product direction, frame ambiguous problems, and design the end-to-end flows behind the interface\n\nContribute to the design system and component libraries that let the team ship faster\n\nUse AI as part of how you work, to explore, prototype, and think past traditional UX and UI patterns\n\nYou might be a fit if\nYou can shape the direction of projects and bring people with you. You've earned the trust of engineers, PMs, and senior stakeholders before, and you know how to move a team without holding a mandate\n\nYou can build and ship your own front-end (TypeScript, React, CSS, animation). AI writes a lot of it now, so the real bar is taste and judgment: knowing what good looks like and getting it the last 10%\n\nYou're self-sufficient: you can take a problem from ambiguity to shipped experience on your own, no hand-holding required\n\nYou have an eye for detail and care deeply about craft, in the flows and logic as much as the pixels\n\nYou finish what you start: polished and shipped, not left at good enough\n\nYou move fast, prototyping ideas in hours, not days\n\nYou think in systems and build reusable, maintainable UI\n\nYou're excited about AI and want to help define new interaction paradigms for an entire industry\n\nNice to have\nExperience building or scaling design systems\n\nExperience building developer tools, technical products, or other complex software for expert users\n\nFormal design training, or a track record that makes it irrelevant\n\nA real interest in how legal work actually gets done\n\nHow we work\nWe're an in-office team in Edinburgh.
