For more information, visit workato.com.\nWhy join us?\nUltimately, Workato believes in fostering a flexible, trust-oriented culture that empowers everyone to take full ownership of their roles. We are driven by innovation and looking forteam players who want to actively build our company. \nBut, we also believe in balancing productivity with self-care. That’s why we offer all of our employees a vibrant and dynamic work environment along with a multitude of benefits they can enjoy inside and outside of their work lives. \nIf this sounds right up your alley, please submit an application. We look forward to getting to know you!\nAlso, feel free to check out why:\nBusiness Insider named us an “enterprise startup to bet your career on”\n\nForbes’ Cloud 100 recognized us as one of the top 100 private cloud companies in the world\n\nDeloitte Tech Fast 500 ranked us as the 17th fastest growing tech company in the Bay Area, and 96th in North America\n\nQuartz ranked us the #1 best company for remote workers\n\nResponsibilities\nWe are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team building core internal infrastructure and developer-facing systems. This role sits at the intersection of project management, engineering leadership, and platform development. The team (Evaluation Engines / Data processing engines) owns foundational components which are embedded into higher level workflow engines and tools. Examples are formula evaluation, data transformation according to predefined mapping, decision models, etc.\nThe team is technically strong and highly autonomous. We are looking for an Engineering Manager who can operate effectively in this environment: someone with a strong engineering background who understands complex systems, but does not need to be the deepest technical expert in every area.\nYour role will be to help experienced engineers work effectively together, create clarity across interconnected initiatives, and improve how the team plans, collaborates, and delivers.\nWhat You’ll Do\nLead a strong engineering team\nYou will manage and develop experienced engineers with significant ownership of their technical domains. The team is mostly Rust engineers, however they also build libraries for several other programming languages: Go, Ruby, Java, Python, and WASM.\n\nYou will be responsible for regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, career development, hiring, onboarding, and team health.\n\nWe expect you to create an environment where engineers can remain highly autonomous while having clear priorities, ownership, and accountability. You will be responsible for team capacity planning and hiring when needed.\n\nBuild strong product\nYou will be working closely with Product Managers and department VP to define how the products look, what to build and in which order, what new exciting features we can bring to our customers. As this area is highly technical and speaks Computer Science terms at times, Product Managers will greatly rely on your and your team expertise to make decisions. \n\nYou will be responsible for working with Quality Engineering and Product Security teams to deliver high-quality products. At the same time in this AI era we expect you to embrace new tools to shift quality and security scans left.\n\nDrive planning and execution\nThe team owns several interconnected technical areas, often developed across separate repositories and involving dependencies between engineers and projects.\nYou will:\nOwn planning and operational execution across multiple engineering workstreams.\n\nCreate visibility into priorities, dependencies, timelines, and resource allocation.\n\nHelp the team turn broad technical direction into an executable roadmap.\n\nIdentify and remove blockers before they significantly impact delivery.\n\nBalance new development, customer commitments, operational work, and technical debt.\n\nDefine meaningful engineering metrics and use them to identify opportunities for improvement.\n\nKeep stakeholders informed about progress, risks, and trade-offs.\n\nPlan release and update cycles of the product.\n\nMaintain the product, be responsible for defects triaging and mitigation.\n\nStay close to technology\nThis is strictly not a purely people-management role. Technical background and experience is a must. \n\nWe don't expect you to be a fluent Rust developer, we in fact are not expecting you to know Rust at all. But you should be comfortable participating in technical discussions, reviewing designs and architecture proposals, understanding engineering trade-offs, and challenging assumptions when needed. You should have a wide industry knowledge, and understand the pros and cons of different programming languages and platforms. \n\nDepending on your background and interests, you may also review code, contribute to tooling or prototypes, participate in incident investigation, or use automation and AI-assisted development to improve engineering workflows.\n\nAt the same time, we do not expect the Engineering Manager to make every technical decision. Senior engineers (your team will contain a mix of engineers up to Staff and Architect levels) own significant parts of the technical direction, and a key part of the role is enabling them to do that effectively.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For \nWe are looking for someone with:\nSignificant software engineering experience before or alongside engineering management.\n\nExperience managing senior, autonomous engineers.\n\nA strong background in platform engineering, developer infrastructure, developer productivity, backend infrastructure, or distributed systems.\n\nExperience with CI/CD, release engineering, developer tooling, or internal engineering platforms.\n\nExperience owning roadmaps and delivering multi-quarter engineering initiatives.\n\nStrong understanding of software development lifecycle and engineering practices.\n\nExperience managing technical debt alongside product and business priorities.\n\nAbility to understand complex technical discussions without needing to personally own every implementation decision.\n\nStrong stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills.\n\nExperience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.\n\nA pragmatic approach to engineering processes: enough structure to make teams effective, without unnecessary bureaucracy.\n\nWhat Makes Someone Successful in This Role\nYou are comfortable joining a team where engineers may understand individual systems more deeply than you do.\n\nInstead of trying to become the technical owner of every component, you ask the right questions, understand trade-offs, create clarity, and help engineers make good decisions together.\n\nYou enjoy finding problems in the engineering system itself: unclear ownership, slow reviews, hidden dependencies, fragmented tooling, competing priorities, or processes that depend too heavily on individuals pushing things forward.\n\nYou can move between a conversation about architecture or CI pipelines, a 1:1 with an engineer, roadmap prioritization with Product, and a discussion about why delivery is taking longer than expected.\n\nYou are comfortable aligning your team roadmap with requirements from Product Managers, and from Engineering leadership, which may be different, and working with different stakeholders in general.\n\nMost importantly, you combine technical credibility with strong people and execution leadership.\n\nNice to Have\nExperience with some of the following would be particularly relevant:\nGolang or Rust; understanding of WASM platform.\n\nBasic understanding of formal grammar, AST, compiler frontends.\n\nObservability and operational tooling.\n\nOpen-source development.\n\nAI-assisted software development and automated code review.\n\nPostgreSQL or database infrastructure. \n\nKubernetes, Docker, Terraform, or cloud infrastructure.\n\nMulti-repository development environments.\n\nDeveloper-facing APIs, SDKs, libraries, or integrations.\n\n(REQ ID: 2582)","description_format":"text","description_chars":8491,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Germany","iso":"DE","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Workflow & Process Automation (RPA, BPM)","AI Agents","Integration & API Management"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-03T00:25:08Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":70,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.695,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":55,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","wave","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-05T05:45:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/workato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/workato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-06T01:42:37Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2443,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":2557,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-07T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":58898},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=58898"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fworkato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fworkato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fworkato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/workato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fworkato-engineering-manager-data-processing-engines-5"}]}
