As part of the evolution of our engineering operating model, durable product teams own delivery while horizontal practices safeguard the craft. We are looking for a Practice Engineer to lead the API platform practice across product streams: setting the standards and staying hands-on in real engineering work.\nIn this model, the principle earns its authority through artefacts - standards and paved paths. You will be the steward of architectural coherence and engineering excellence for your platform across all product teams.\nReporting Lines & Interactions\nPart of the Forum IT Team, the Practice Engineer reports to the Head of Engineering. You will work across product teams in partnership with Engineering Managers - coaching engineers through weekly office hours, code reviews and RFC reviews - and sit on hiring loops as the technical-bar interviewer. You will also collaborate with the IT Systems & IT Security teams on infrastructure stability and security, and with fellow Practice Engineers in the architecture council.\nThe successful candidate will be assessed on\nAuthor and maintain platform craft standards - a set of specific, actionable guidelines - and maintain architectural coherence across product teams. Write paved paths and skills that enable engineers and agents to build compliant applications by default.\nOwn API design standards (REST/GraphQL/Event-Driven), the OpenAPI documentation process, versioning and deprecation policy, the API gateway setup and the service catalog.\nSurface and drive resolution of cross-cutting technical debt across product streams.\nRun platform rituals: weekly office hours, technical demos, and RFC reviews; coach engineers across teams through the craft line.\nServe as the technical-bar interviewer on hiring loops, partnering with Engineering Managers who lead hiring.\nOwn the deployment processes and CI/CD tooling that support product teams, document infrastructure specifications, and collaborate with the IT & ITS teams to ensure stability and security.\nRequirements\nUniversity-level education in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.\n8+ years of relevant industry experience with deep expertise in API management and a track record of shipping and operating products at scale.\nDemonstrated experience setting technical standards, leading architecture decisions, and driving their adoption across multiple teams through influence rather than authority.\nDeep command of API design and governance - REST plus at least one of GraphQL, gRPC, or event-driven; OpenAPI/schema-first design; and clear versioning, deprecation, and governance practices applied across teams.\nStrong command of at least one major API/web development language and framework - such as Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails, or Go - with the breadth to read, review, and contribute across related product engineering domains.\nFamiliar with modern infrastructure, CI/CD tooling and deployment processes, with a working knowledge of security and stability practices.\nPractical experience with agent-assisted (AI-assisted) development and building paved paths, templates or tooling that other engineers (and agents) build on.\nExperience interviewing and holding the technical bar in engineering hiring.\nFluency in English, with excellent written, digital, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a complex, international organization.\nWhy join us?\nJoin an independent and impartial organization with over 55 years of connecting leaders to make sense of global challenges and move the world forward together.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4010,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Management Consulting","Standards & Industry Bodies"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-08-24T00:00:00Z"},{"event":"close","at":"2026-09-24T01:33:47Z"},{"event":"reopen","at":"2026-10-12T14:33:22Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":22,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.619,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":56,"expected_fill_days":21,"reasons":["conf:0","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-19T05:45:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/world-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/world-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-19T15:17:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":11253,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-20T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":14201},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=14201"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fworld-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fworld-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fworld-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/world-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fworld-economic-forum-practice-engineer-api"}]}
