We assist with asset strategy and selection, business case preparation, concept and feasibility studies, technology evaluation, energy strategies and asset operational excellence.\nPurpose:\nWe are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our Consulting team in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta, Canada, or Houston, Texas. This position is ideal for an engineer with 3-8 years of experience who is looking to expand their technical expertise while developing consulting, client engagement, and project delivery skills.\nWorking alongside experienced consultants and engineers, you will support studies, assessments, engineering evaluations, digital transformation initiatives, automation projects, operational improvement programs, and project development activities across the energy, chemicals, mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.\nResponsibilities:\nSupport consulting assignments related to controls, automation, process control, and industrial digitalization.\nAbility to work independently & efficiently with guidance of a lead engineer when required. \nAssist with technical studies, assessments, analyses, and recommendations for client projects.\nSupport development of engineering and consulting deliverables including technical reports, specifications, datasheets, logic drawings, cause and effects, controls markups on P&IDs, control narratives, logic diagrams, and presentations.\nSupport project development activities through concept selection, FEL, FEED, and detailed engineering phases.\nAssist with preparation of project proposals, estimates, scopes of work, schedules, and technical documentation.\nParticipate in client meetings, workshops, and multidisciplinary project reviews.\nSupport evaluation and selection of control systems, automation technologies, and digital solutions.\nCoordinate effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.\nIdentify technical issues, develop practical solutions, and seek guidance when appropriate.\nMaintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and applicable engineering standards.\nWhat you will bring:\nTechnical and Industry Experience:\nIntermediate level of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, automation, process control, fiber optic architecture and project delivery.\nGood understanding of control system design principles and engineering deliverables.\nWillingness to learn, grow and embrace challenges.\nExperience working on multidisciplinary projects in industrial, energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure, or related sectors.\nStrong analytical, communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary and client-facing teams.\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng. or P.E.) registration or ability to obtain registration. \nAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.\nPreferred Experience:\nExperience working within an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) or EPCM environment.\nFamiliarity with FEL, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and startup activities.\nExperience with industrial automation systems including PLC, DCS and SCADA systems.\nExperience participating in HAZOPs, LOPAs, control system assessments, or risk reviews.\nKnowledge of ISA, IEC, NFPA, API, CSA, or other applicable industry standards.\nExperience in energy, chemicals, mining, industrial, nuclear infrastructure, or manufacturing sectors.\nStrong technical writing, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.\nEducation - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:\nRequired:\nBachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related engineering discipline.\nWhy Join Us\nYou will have the opportunity to work with experienced consultants, technical specialists, and project teams on assignments ranging from early-stage strategy and concept development through detailed engineering and implementation.
