You will be responsible for the quality, consistency, and timely delivery of electrical design deliverables, while coordinating closely with Electrical Engineers, other discipline designers, project leadership, and clients. This role balances hands-on technical design expertise with day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and coordination of a small design team.\nThe Lead Electrical Designer is a key contributor to safe, constructible, and cost-effective electrical designs in support of multidisciplinary engineering projects across the energy, chemicals, mining, and infrastructure sectors.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical & Design Leadership\nLead the development and delivery of electrical design deliverables, including:\nElectrical layouts, routing, and installation drawings\n\nCable tray and conduit layouts\n\nEquipment location plans\n\nLighting, grounding, and earthing layouts\n\nHazardous area layouts (as applicable)\n\nProvide technical guidance and oversight to Electrical Designers and Design Technologists.\n\nReview and check design deliverables for quality, constructability, and compliance with project standards, codes, and specifications.\n\nEnsure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA, NEC, IEC, client standards, and project-specific requirements).\n\nSupport Electrical Engineers with the interpretation and implementation of design requirements into detailed design drawings and models.\n\nProject & Team Leadership\nLead a small team of Electrical Designers and coordinate daily design activities and priorities.\n\nPlan and assign work, monitor progress against schedule and budget, and proactively identify and resolve resourcing or delivery risks.\n\nAct as the primary design point of contact for the electrical discipline on assigned projects or work packages.\n\nParticipate in project planning, design reviews, model reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.\n\nInterface with construction, procurement, and commissioning teams to support constructability and execution planning.\n\nCoordination & Collaboration\nCoordinate closely with other discipline leads and designers (piping, civil/structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and process) to ensure integrated, clash-free designs.\n\nSupport 3D model coordination and interdisciplinary design reviews.\n\nIncorporate client feedback and manage design changes in accordance with project change management processes.\n\nQuality, Safety & Continuous Improvement\nPromote a strong safety culture in design, including consideration of safe access, maintenance, and constructability.\n\nSupport continuous improvement of design standards, tools, templates, and workflows within the Electrical discipline.\n\nContribute to the development and mentoring of junior designers through coaching and technical guidance.\n\nQualifications & Experience\nEducation & Training\nDiploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or a related discipline.\n\nExperience\nExtensive experience in electrical design within engineering, EPC/EPCM, or industrial project environments.\n\nDemonstrated experience leading small to medium-sized electrical design teams or acting as a discipline design lead on projects.\n\nStrong experience delivering electrical design for industrial facilities such as oil & gas, chemicals, mining, power, or infrastructure projects.\n\nTechnical Skills\nProficiency with industry-standard design tools and platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, SmartPlant, AVEVA E3D, Revit, or similar 3D design tools).\n\nStrong understanding of electrical systems layout and installation, including cable management systems, grounding/earthing, lighting, and equipment layouts.\n\nFamiliarity with relevant electrical codes, standards, and best practices (CSA, NEC, IEC, client standards).\n\nStrong ability to interpret engineering documentation, datasheets, specifications, and vendor drawings.\n\nLeadership & Interpersonal Skills\nProven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate the work of designers within a project environment.\n\nStrong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with project leadership and clients.\n\nWell-organized, proactive, and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.\n\nFor applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $118,726 to $160,630.\nApplication of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.\nMoving forward together\nWe want our people to be energized and empowered to drive sustainable impact.
