We’re bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.\nPurpose\nThe Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC will be based in either Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB and will play a pivotal role in supporting engineering activities related to HVAC systems across a broad range of industrial and energy projects. This role involves leading HVAC engineering execution and overseeing high-quality deliverables for one major project or multiple smaller projects, while providing technical mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.\nKey Responsibilities\nPrepare and review HVAC design deliverables including design criteria, specifications, equipment data sheets, material requisitions, bid evaluations, and technical recommendations for award.\n\nPerform HVAC system design and calculations including heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation and pressurization studies, ductwork and piping sizing, and equipment selection.\n\nDevelop and review layouts for HVAC systems, including equipment arrangement, duct routing, and coordination with architectural, structural, electrical, and piping disciplines.\n\nConduct site visits to operating facilities and project sites to support field engineering, constructability reviews, and commissioning activities.\n\nServe as the primary technical point of contact for HVAC vendors and suppliers, including technical clarification and review of vendor documentation and drawings.\n\nEnsure HVAC designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client specifications, and project requirements.\n\nCoordinate HVAC scope with project management, procurement, construction, commissioning, and client teams to ensure integrated and constructible solutions.\n\nMaintain a high standard of quality across all HVAC deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.\n\nSupport work share activities with global execution centers and review outsourced deliverables for technical accuracy and quality.\n\nContribute to scope definition, work-hour estimates, Total Installed Cost (TIC) inputs, and resource loading for HVAC scopes of work.\n\nProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate HVAC engineers and designers.\n\nSupport or act as Mechanical Discipline Lead or HVAC Package Lead as required by the project.\nTechnical and Industry Experience\nStrong background in HVAC engineering for industrial facilities including oil & gas, energy transition (hydrogen, carbon capture), chemicals, mining, and heavy industrial projects.\n\nIn-depth knowledge of HVAC system design including air handling units, packaged HVAC units, exhaust and ventilation systems, pressurization systems, and specialty systems for hazardous or classified areas.\n\nWorking knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, SMACNA, and relevant provincial and national building codes.\n\nExperience with HVAC design tools and calculation software (e.g., HAP, Trace, Elite, or equivalent) is considered an asset.\n\nExperience supporting brownfield projects, retrofits, revamps, and facility expansions is considered an asset.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and multi-discipline project teams.\n\nEducation and Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.\n\nRegistered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or eligibility for registration.\n\nDemonstrated senior-level experience and subject matter expertise in HVAC system design for industrial facilities.\n\nMoving forward together\nWe’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace where everyone feels they belong, can bring themselves, and are heard.
