We are WSP.\nThe Opportunity\nBuild the Future With Us - As an Aquatic Toxicologist, you will be part of the risk assessment team which is part of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Environmental Management team in BC and Yukon, that supports our diverse clients with their investigation, remediation and risk assessment needs.\nYou will be joining one of the largest risk assessment and toxicologist teams in the BC and Yukon region. Our team has over 20 staff that practice in a range of areas including but not limited to: human and ecological risk assessment, environmental impact assessments, aquatic effects assessments, specialty toxicology services, and environmental monitoring.\nYou will have opportunities to provide input on a wide range of projects that would benefit from your risk assessment, toxicology, biology, or related expertise.\nYour Impact\nApply your expertise in aquatic toxicology to a wide variety of projects by supporting or leading projects related to toxicological effects assessments, risk assessment, and environmental monitoring, while collaborating with senior staff to understand project objectives and implementation.\n\nConduct literature reviews on toxicology and environmental chemistry, critically evaluating and extracting relevant information.\n\nDesign, coordinate, and interpret results of aquatic toxicity studies, and integrate literature and toxicity test data to support development of site-specific toxicity thresholds and evaluation of toxicity.\n\nDesign and/or oversee environmental monitoring programs, with minimal field time expected for this mid-level position, but as needed to help deliver projects.\n\nPrepare reports, presentations, and proposals, participate in client meetings, and develop internal/external client relationships.\n\nUse statistical tools to analyze datasets and help with data visualization, while implementing quality control & quality assurance measures applicable to the task.\n\nDevelop your technical skills and share these skills with other members of your team and your technical discipline, as supported/mentored by senior staff.\n\nProvide technical training and support to more junior staff.\n\nManage projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.\n\nThe Skills That Set You Apart\nMaster’s degree or higher in Toxicology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline, with eligibility for professional registration as a Registered Professional Biologist or a Biologist in Training (College of Applied Biology of British Columbia) or other applicable professional regulatory body.\n\n4 to 6 years of relevant experience working in toxicology and risk assessment.\n\nExperience designing and interpreting aquatic toxicity studies, including familiarity with standard toxicity test protocols.\n\nExperience applying and deriving water quality guidelines, with the ability to critically review toxicity literature.\n\nStrong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment.\n\nStrong attention to detail and written communication skills, including technical writing.\n\nStrong commitment to health and safety.\n\nProficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of at least one advanced statistical software package (e.g., R, SPSS, SigmaPlot).\n\nValid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean Driver’s Abstract, with willingness to travel occasionally depending on project-specific needs.\n\nWhy Choose WSP?\nWe exist to shape communities to advance humanity.
