Apply, and we can see how your experience aligns to this role and other opportunities within the team..\nA little more about your role…\nAs an Associate Protection & Control Engineer working within the UK Energy business, you will play a leading role in delivering the power transmission infrastructure required to support the UK's transition to Net Zero. Working across major transmission and distribution programmes, you will provide technical leadership, project direction and people management whilst supporting the growth and development of our Protection & Control capability.\nWSP has a significant workload across the UK energy sector that will provide the opportunity to shape major infrastructure projects, develop high-performing teams and influence the future direction of our technical capabilities. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with specialists across engineering disciplines and acting as a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues alike.\nAs part of this, you will be responsible for:\nTechnical Leadership: Lead the development and delivery of complex protection and control solutions for transmission and distribution projects, providing technical direction and assurance across multidisciplinary teams. \n BP141 & CDAE Excellence: Undertake and support National Grid BP141 and Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) activities, ensuring designs are technically compliant, robust and aligned to client standards and governance requirements. \nPeople Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop engineers across a range of experience levels, supporting performance, technical growth, succession planning and capability development within the discipline. \nClient Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and representing WSP during technical discussions, design reviews and project governance meetings. \nBusiness Growth: Support the growth of our Protection & Control capability through recruitment, resource planning, work winning activities and the continuous development of our technical offering. \nCollaborative Culture: Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages knowledge sharing, innovation and continuous improvement across the wider Energy business. \nThis is an excellent opportunity to…\nLead the design and delivery of protection and control systems for electrical transmission and distribution networks. \nProvide technical leadership and oversight on complex engineering projects from concept through to commissioning. \nAct as a BP141 Authorised Engineer and/or CDAE, supporting design assurance activities and ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards. \nReview and approve protection and control designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation. \nLead technical design reviews, hazard reviews and quality assurance activities. \nManage and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to successfully deliver project objectives. \nProvide technical support during tendering, project planning, installation, commissioning and handover phases. \nDevelop and maintain strong client relationships, supporting project delivery and business development opportunities. \nMentor and develop junior engineers, graduates and apprentices, supporting their technical progression and professional development. \nDrive innovation, best practice and continuous improvement within the Protection & Control discipline. \nSupport resource management, team utilisation and recruitment activities to ensure sustainable growth of the capability. \nStay informed on emerging technologies, industry developments and evolving client requirements across the energy sector. \nWhat we will be looking for you to demonstrate…\nDegree qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. \nExtensive experience in the design and delivery of protection and control schemes within transmission and distribution environments. \nStrong technical knowledge of electrical networks, engineering standards and protection philosophies. \nProven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex projects. \nExperience reviewing and approving technical documentation, calculations and design deliverables. \nKnowledge and experience of working with major substation control and protection equipment suppliers such as ABB/Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy and GE Vernova. \nStrong understanding of industry communication protocols including IEC 61850 and IEC 60870. \nDemonstrable experience mentoring, coaching and developing engineers within a technical environment. \nExperience supporting client engagement, project governance and business development activities. \nChartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership. \nNational Grid BP141 Authorisation (or demonstrable experience working towards authorisation). \nExperience undertaking Design Assurance and/or Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) responsibilities would be highly advantageous. \nDon’t quite meet all the criteria?
