This position supports the agency by ensuring that the supplier’s and designer’s system architectures, interface definitions, and design deliverables comply with contract requirements, operational needs, and industry standards. The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of CBTC hardware and software architecture with strong systems engineering and integration management expertise. They will possess a strong knowledge of vital and non-vital hardware/software architectures, and a deep understanding of NYCT operations. They will guide requirement traceability, oversee design validation, and ensure the CBTC system supports safe, reliable, and maintainable rail operations across all program phases.\nYour Impact\nProvide technical leadership of the CBTC design and implementation process, ensuring compliance with Authority requirements, project standards, and best practices.\nEvaluate and guide system architecture decisions for CBTC subsystems, including vital/non-vital software, interlocking logic, ATS, telecoms, OCC, and train-borne equipment.\nCollaborate with the requirements management team to ensure requirements traceability and validation across all subsystems and interface control points.\nReview supplier and designer deliverables for technical completeness, ensuring system designs align with CENELEC (EN 50126/8/9), IEEE 1474, and FTA standards.\nAssess design impacts, risks, and dependencies across contracts; provide recommendations for mitigation and integration.\nCoordinate with NYCT operations, safety, and maintenance stakeholders to ensure the design supports operational efficiency, maintainability, and interoperability.\nSupport and review the development of the System Integration Plan, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and verification/validation documentation.\nReview and advise on system assurance, RAMS, and certification readiness deliverables.\nProvide guidance on I2S (Interface Interoperability Specification) compliance and its implications for system integration and migration at NYCT.\nSupport coordination between the design, testing & commissioning, and safety certification teams to ensure seamless progression from design to validation.\nTrack design maturity, configuration changes, and system readiness milestones, and report progress to the agency.\nPerform additional responsibilities as required to support technical reviews, stakeholder coordination, and program execution.\nWho You Are\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field\n10+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, prior transit and rail experience, and infrastructure design.\nDeep understanding of CBTC architecture, including vital/non-vital subsystems, interlockings, ATS, telecoms, and OCC interfaces.\nExperience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and configuration control processes.\nExperience in CBTC technology. Minimum of 5 years of CBTC Project experience.\nProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.\nStrong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.\nOccasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.\nFull understanding of vital and non-vital signal logic, relay-based control circuits, and their translation into CBTC subsystem software.\nWorking knowledge of interlocking design, block layouts, overlap logic, and control line functions.\nUnderstanding of test sequencing, verification, and validation of signaling systems within mixed-mode operation.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster’s Degree in Engineering\nProven experience supporting or overseeing complex brownfield CBTC deployments involving multiple suppliers, interfaces, and operational constraints.\nFamiliarity with Interface Interoperability Specification (I2S) and NYCT’s signal design standards.\nWSP Benefits:\nWSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.
