The successful candidate will provide specialist project engineering and technical oversight for major coal, ash disposal and bulk materials handling projects. This is an opportunity for an accomplished engineering professional to contribute deep technical expertise across the full project lifecycle, from tender development and technical reviews through construction, commissioning, testing and handover.\nKey responsibilities\nProvide expert project engineering and technical oversight for ash disposal facilities, coal facilities and bulk materials handling works.\n\nReview project, tender and technical construction package documentation before tendering and throughout project execution.\n\nAssess construction and interface requirements for conveyors, transfer houses, pump stations, pipelines and mechanical installations.\n\nProvide specialist oversight of ash disposal areas, pollution control dams, clean water dams and drainage systems.\n\nAdvise on coal stockyards, stackers, reclaimers, conveying systems and emergency ash or coal stacking requirements.\n\nSupport construction, commissioning, testing, operational readiness and sectional or full handover.\n\nEngage with clients, suppliers, contractors, end users and multidisciplinary project stakeholders.\n\nResolve technical issues affecting project delivery and commercial performance.\n\nPrepare expert reports, performance dashboards, assessments and completion-readiness documentation.\n\nQualifications and experience\nBSc in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.\n\nAt least 15 years’ experience in a senior coal, ash or bulk materials handling position.\n\nECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or equivalent\n\nWhat you will bring\nExtensive project construction or project engineering management experience in a large, mega or complex organisation, preferably within utilities or infrastructure.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of coal and ash systems, conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, stockyards, pipelines and pump stations.\n\nStrong technical review, risk management, problem-solving and issue-resolution capability.\n\nExcellent stakeholder, supplier and contractor engagement skills.\n\nStrong technical reporting and verbal communication skills.\n\nAbility to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs within time and budget constraints.\n\nWillingness to travel to power stations, project sites and office locations as required.\n\nWhy WSP?\nAt WSP, you will work alongside respected technical professionals on complex infrastructure projects that have a lasting impact.
