As an Intermediate Substation Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering Substation design solutions for high-voltage utility and renewable energy projects across Canada. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you’ll contribute to projects from concept through commissioning while helping clients solve complex power system challenges.\nOur Power subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. Our team of experts collaborates to provide services that align with our vision of meeting and exceeding the highest industry standards through innovation.\nYour Impact\nPerform detailed design of medium- and high-voltage utility substations in accordance with applicable industry standards, including IEEE and ANSI standards.\nDevelop one-line diagrams, general arrangements, elevation views, conduit and cable routing plans, substation physical layouts, grounding layouts, and equipment details.\nPerform engineering calculations, including lightning protection, battery sizing, AC station service sizing, cable ampacities and conduit and cable tray sizing.\nDevelop protection and control designs for transmission and distribution substations.\nPrepare protection philosophies, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and panel layouts.\nSupport the development of design basis documents, technical specifications, engineering calculations, reports, and construction packages.\nCollaborate with clients, utilities, equipment suppliers, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.\nProvide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.\nParticipate in multidisciplinary project teams delivering renewable energy, utility, and industrial power projects.\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives and share technical knowledge across the team.\nThe Skills That Set You Apart\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Canada.\nAt least 5 to 10 years' experience in substation design engineering within utility, consulting, or industrial environments.\nDemonstrated experience serving as a substation design engineer on multiple concurrent brownfield and greenfield projects.\nWorking knowledge of transmission and distribution protection philosophies and industry standards.\nExperience in substation design at 500 kV voltage level is considered an asset.\nKnowledge of IEC 61850 communication protocols and digital substations is considered an asset.\nStrong technical writing, problem-solving, and client-facing communication skills.\nAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.\nWillingness to travel occasionally to client facilities, substations, or project sites.\nWhy Choose WSP?\nWe exist to shape communities to advance humanity.\nProudly Canadian - We are a Top 100 Employer in Canada for 2026.\nA global community of brilliant minds - your next idea, mentor, or opportunity is always within reach. \nLimitless opportunities start here - we help you tailor your career to match your ambitions. \nFlexible work, real balance - we recognize the importance of balance in our lives and encourage you to prioritize the balance in yours. \n#WeAreWSP #WithUsYouCan #LI-Hybrid\nCompensation:\nAB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $51.90 - $68.80\nMB & ON: $47.40 - $65.20\nNB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $46.90 - $62.30\nDisclosure:\nThe final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
