As a Junior Mine Waste/Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management systems, gaining hands-on experience in field investigations, analysis, and project delivery while helping shape the future of mining infrastructure.\nYour Impact\nConduct geotechnical site investigations and dam construction quality assurance fieldwork to support safe and reliable mine waste facilities.\nInterpret site investigation and laboratory testing data to inform engineering decisions and project recommendations.\nPrepare and contribute to technical reports, assessments, and project documentation.\nPerform stability, seepage, and liquefaction analyses to evaluate facility performance and risk.\nSupport the development and implementation of mine waste management strategies and plans.\nMonitor and evaluate the performance of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management systems.\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geologists, environmental scientists, water resource engineers, and project managers.\nProvide technical support during project planning, design, construction, and operational phases.\nThe Skills That Set You Apart\nBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.\nStrong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and industry best practices.\n0 to 3 years of experience in mine waste management, geotechnical engineering, mining, or a related field.\nExperience using geotechnical software such as GeoStudio.\nEligibility for Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) registration or active registration with a provincial engineering association.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams.\nValid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork as required.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.\nExperience with tailings dam design, assessment, or management.\nFamiliarity with environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and mining industry standards.\nExposure to project coordination or project management activities.\nResidence in or willingness to relocate to the Sudbury area.\nWhy Choose WSP?\nWe exist to shape communities to advance humanity.
