Reporting to the Manager, Rail Systems Engineering, you will collaborate with Chief Engineers, technical specialists, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex signaling solutions for commuter rail, light rail, and heavy rail projects.\nIn this role, you will apply your transferable skills to define engineering processes, develop execution plans,\nmentor junior team members, and play a part in delivering multiple projects. You will be supported by leadership to grow your professional capabilities and strengthen your impact as a leader in a consulting environment.\nYour Impact\nDevelop and analyze signal systems for transit and heavy rail in both Communications Based Train Control and traditional relay-based systems. Analysis includes braking calculations, control tables, routes and aspects, schematics, and phasing plans.\n\nPreparation of detailed calculations, drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation, technical specifications, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, cost estimates, detailed analyses, design justifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes in rail signaling.\n\nPerform detailed checks of signals and circuit designs by other signaling engineers within the team, or from third-party sources through clients in a consultancy environment.\n\nCreate signaling schemes compliant with industry standards and codes using knowledge of signaling principles, circuits, and components.\n\nEnsure all signaling design elements conform to all applicable industry codes and standards and client specifications.\n\nEnsure all design elements are compliant with the relevant Rail Operation Rules.\n\nInteract with clients to discuss technical topics in a clear and professional manner. Facilitate resolution of customer expectations versus technical issues.\n\nWork with tight schedules, be flexible, control project budgets, and motivate junior staff.\n\nPlan and execute project work, based on an understanding of the project scope, schedule, and budget.\n\nThe Skills That Set You Apart\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering\n\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligibility to apply.\n\nMinimum of 5 years of experience in Railway Signaling in both Communications Based Train Control and traditional relay-based systems.\n\nProficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and / or equivalent CAD software.\n\nStrong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.\n\nStrong working knowledge of: CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules), AREMA standards and Transport Canada GCR/GCS requirements.\n\nExperience in signaling design, circuit design, relay logic design, communications-based signals design, and grade crossing warning systems design.\n\nProven ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams and across different business units.\n\nStrong communication skills, presentation skills, and report writing skills.\n\nKnowledge of signaling principles, train control solutions including CBTC (moving block or fixed block) and PTC, and railway standards such as CENELEC and MIL-STD.\n\nSkilled in developing, modifying, and validating vital logic and application data across multiple signaling platforms.\n\nProven experience programming and configuring railway signaling systems such as: XP4, ElectroLogIXS and related industry-standard signaling systems.\n\nExperience with simulation software such as SATS or Vital-Sim.\n\nExperience supporting system testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of field issues.\n\nWhy Choose WSP?\nWhy Choose WSP?
