The Construction Project Engineer III is a technical leader responsible for executing the full lifecycle of nuclear facility construction projects-translating design intent into built reality while ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance at every stage. This role will bridge the gap between process / mechanical design and physical construction, working with project managers, multidisciplinary teams, superintendents, schedules, budgets, and compliance with strict regulatory safety standards. The position requires expertise in heavy industrial facilities, process systems, mechanical equipment installation, piping, HVAC, and related plant systems.\nThis is a high-impact technical position requiring both strategic project thinking and deep hands-on expertise in nuclear or heavy industrial construction environments.\n Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:\nEngineering Coordination: Interpret design drawings and specifications, translating engineering deliverables into actionable Construction Work Packages (CWPs) for field personnel.\nSafety & Compliance: Ensure all field activities strictly adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) guidelines, regulatory codes, and quality assurance plans.\nMaterial & Quantity Control: Oversee the receipt, inspection, and storage of field-procured materials. Track weekly construction quantities and validate progress against the project budget.\nIssue Resolution: Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and field changes, performing trend analyses to mitigate risks that could impact schedules or costs.\nCross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the technical liaison between superintendents, external design consultants, project controls, and the client.\nSystem Turnover: Coordinate with the Startup team to smoothly transition completed systems from construction into operational handover.\nAssist with growing and developing junior team members.\nAdditional tasks as delegated by the Project Manager / Director.\nMaintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.\nPerform other duties as assigned by manager.\n Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:\nEducation: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering, Civil, Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering.\nExperience: Typically, 5+ years of experience in heavy construction or nuclear engineering.\nExperience in mechanical equipment installation, process systems, piping, HVAC in industrial or nuclear environments, strongly preferred.\nIndustry Knowledge: Deep familiarity with nuclear facility requirements beneficial, Department of Energy (DOE) orders, the Nuclear Regulatory Committee (NRC), or commercial nuclear standards.\nUnderstanding of ASME B31.1, ASME Section III, and mechanical code requirements.\nSkills: Strong communication, risk management, and the ability to interpret complex engineering plans and specifications.\nAbility to travel and relocate as needed.\nHighly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.\nStrong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.\nDemonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.\nPassion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.\nStrong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.\nExperience with P6 or equivalent schedule software preferred.\nExperience with AutoCAD or equivalent cad software preferred.\nStrong proficiency in use of MS suite.\nStrong organization, time management, and attention to detail\nAbility to meet physical demands\nWhen working on an active construction site, may work in rough or uneven terrain.\nFrequent walking, standing, and sitting.\nOccasional climbing, bending / crouching.\nOccasional lifting up to 25 pounds.\nLocation: 151 Lafayette Drive, Suite 300, Oak Ridge, TN\nWork Site Expectations: 5 days a week in office\nTravel: 10%\nHours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri\nCompensation\nAs required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).
