This role is responsible for executing rigorous systems engineering processes to support the design, integration, and management of complex nuclear systems throughout their lifecycles. Working within established model-based systems engineering frameworks, this position ensures all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The Systems Engineer focuses on verifying and validating product requirements according to the systems engineering lifecycle process while maintaining clear documentation of design decisions and system interfaces.Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities\nLead the execution the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.\n\nProvide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.\n\nLead small groups of engineers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high quality engineering work products on time and within budget.\n\nApply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.\n\nLead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding:\nStakeholder and operational analysis\n\nRequirement identification, decomposition, and management\n\nFunctional decomposition and modeling\n\nLogical system architecture development and modeling\n\nPhysical product definition, interface management, and change control\n\nDesign integration and testing\n\nSystem verification and validation\n\nConcept of operations development and modeling\n\nDevelop and maintain system behavior models using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.\n\nLead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.\n\nSupport value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.\n\nWrite and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nExecute systems engineering processes within X-energy's quality management framework.\n\nWork across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.\n\nPerform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.\n\nAlways maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.\n\nPerform other duties as assigned by manager.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited institution required.\n\nLevel III: Typically, five years of experience in an engineering role required.\n\nLevel IV: Typically, ten years of experience in an engineering role required.\n\nLevel V: Typically, fifteen years of experience in an engineering role required.\n\nLevel VI: Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role required.\nA master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.\n\nA Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.\n\nPrevious experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.\n\nExperience with systems engineering software tools.\n\nExperience and/or knowledge in a minimum of one of the following areas:\nSystem Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)\nOperational & Stakeholder Analysis\n\nRequirements Management\n\nSystem Design & Interface Management\n\nDesign Integration & Testing\n\nVerification & Validation\n\nModel-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Tools and Methods & Product Lifecycle Management Systems\ne.g. Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORS\n\nLocation: 9801 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD\nWork Site Expectations: 4 days in office\nTravel Expectations: Up to 10% as needed\nHours: 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Monday-Friday\nCompensation\nAs required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).
