Mechanical Engineer - Pulsed Power

This is a full-time, onsite role based at our headquarters in Denver, CO.

As aMechanical Engineer - Pulsed Power, you will lead the design, integration, and operation of high voltage pulsed power systems for lasers used in IFE power generation. Your work will begin with prototype systems and continue through the design and demonstration of power-producing IFE reactors. You will ensure that pulsed power hardware meets performance requirements throughout the product development lifecycle in a dynamic R&D environment. Responsibilities

• Develop and specify pulsed power generator components to meet pulsed power requirements.
• Design equipment using NX CAD
• Work with vendors for custom and OTS devices and instruments
• Ensure functional integration of Marx and generator architecture and subsystems through analysis, documentation, and machine testing.
• Mechanical design and documentation of generator parts, assemblies, lifting structures, oil plumbing and pumping, and structural supports using NX.
• Analyzing designs with FEA to map external influences on components and assemblies.
• Creating and maintaining interface control documents.
• Lead design efforts for prototype systems and subsystems, including Preliminary and Final Designs.
• Troubleshoot escalations and derive practical recommendations for improvements.
• Collaborate with mechanical, laser, controls, pulsed power, and optical engineering teams throughout the design and development process.
• Support procurement of hardware for laser amplifiers and support equipment.
• Oversee and assist with assembly, shakedown, testing, and failure analysis of pulsed powersystems, laser amplifiers, and ancillary equipment.
• Provide operational support for pulsed power systems and equipment.
• Contribute to scaling designs for power-producing IFE reactors and participate in concept studies for IFE applications and beyond.

Qualifications

• Education:B.S. in Mechanical, Nuclear, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• Experience:3+ years in mechanical engineering, with a focus on high voltage pulsed powerdesign for complex hardware (preferred industries include semiconductor, solar, nuclear, fusion energy, lasers, aerospace, or defense).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX preferred).
• Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Experience designing simple PCBs or flex circuits.
• Experience with complex integrated system design (e.g., pulsed power, lasers, high voltagesystems, fusion energy, aerospace, or defense).
• Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and testing.
• Interdisciplinary engineering experience is a plus.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee of granted asylum
