Role Summary:

The Application / Proposal Engineer will be part of the Xylem Treatment team and will be responsible for end-to-end proposal and application engineering activities-from bid stage to manufacturing release. The role includes process design, cost estimation, proposal development, and preparation of compliance matrices for industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment projects, with a strong focus on recycling and reuse applications.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal & Application Engineering

• Prepare comprehensive technical and commercial proposals, including proposal outlines and compliance matrices, aligned with customer specifications and tender requirements.
• Review and analyze industrial and municipal tenders/RFPs to ensure full compliance and responsiveness to client needs.
• Develop process designs, select appropriate technologies and products, estimate costs, and support timely proposal submission.
• Create and maintain proposal schedules, conduct proposal progress meetings, and manage bid submission plans including interim and final reviews.
• Act as the technical expert for membrane-based water and wastewater treatment applications, including UF, RO (BWRO & SWRO), MBR, EDI, and hybrid systems.
• Analyze feed water characteristics, operating conditions, and customer requirements to develop optimized treatment solutions.
• Perform system design calculations including:
  • Process & Mass Balance
  • Membrane flux and recovery design
  • Hydraulic calculations
  • Chemical consumption and OPEX estimation
• Prepare and review technical documents such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFD/HFD), P&IDs, equipment layouts, and datasheets.
• Support troubleshooting, process optimization, and risk mitigation during proposal and design review stages.

Technical Design & Costing

• Perform process selection, equipment sizing, and application analysis based on project data.
• Prepare process & mass balance calculations, hydraulic calculations, electrical load lists, instrument lists, OPEX estimates, and cost estimates.
• Develop technical deliverables such as HFDs, P&IDs, layout sketches, equipment lists, and detailed quotations.
• Continuously improve process sizing tools and design programs; demonstrate measurable improvements made to these tools.
• Support technology transfer of new membrane products, tools, and application guidelines from global technology centers to regional teams.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Work closely with Sales, Product Management, R&D,Procurement, Project Management, and Manufacturing to deliver competitive and high-quality proposals.
• Support sales teams during technical discussions, clarifications, and presentations with customers.
• Participate in proposal strategy development and Proposal Management Plan (PMP) preparation.
• Attend pre-qualification meetings, design and risk review sessions, and customer meetings as required.

Technology Transfer & Knowledge Sharing

• Participate in commercial and technical technology transfer activities within Xylem, including established and emerging water and wastewater treatment technologies.
• Support internal teams during conception, detailed engineering, and fabrication phases.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Comprehensive expertise in industrial water and wastewater treatment technologies, including membrane systems such as UF, BWRO, SWRO, MBR, MB, and EDI.
• Strong understanding of filtration systems, biological treatment processes, chemical dosing, evaporation, and related unit operations.
• Demonstrated capability in proposal engineering, cost estimation, and lifecycle cost analysis.
• In-depth knowledge of the Indian industrial and municipal water and wastewater sectors.
• Proficient in MS Office applications, with working knowledge of AutoCAD, P&ID development, and process simulation tools.
• Solid analytical, organizational, and project coordination abilities.
• Excellent technical writing, documentation, presentation, and communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with global engineering standards and bidding practices commonly followed by membrane OEMs and EPC organizations.
• Proven experience working within matrix organizations and collaborating with multidisciplinary, global teams.

Experience & Industry Exposure

• Minimum 15 years of experience in proposal engineering or application engineering within the industrial water and wastewater treatment sector, particularly recycling and reuse projects.
• Exposure to industries including Oil & Gas, Refineries, Chemicals, Food & Beverage, Power, Pharmaceuticals, Textiles, CETPs, Paper & Pulp, and similar sectors.
• Prior experience with reputed EPCs or water technology companies, reputed membrane OEMs or system integrators is highly desirable.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical and environmental engineering
