With 23,000 employees across more than 150 countries, we deliver innovative solutions that help utilities and communities manage water and resources more efficiently.\nWe are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Gas Metering and Communication Systems (AMI) Product Development Team. This role will support New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering. In this role, you will contribute to new product development from concept through production launch while also supporting current products to develop solutions to resolve production and field challenges. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on development, cross-functional collaboration, and solving real-world product challenges.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign mechanical components, assemblies, interfaces, and environmental packaging for rugged outdoor electromechanical products.\nSupport product development from concept through launch, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, cost, and schedule goals.\nCreate and maintain drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.\nUse tools such as 3D CAD, tolerance analysis, and FEA to guide design decisions.\nPartner with electrical, software, firmware, systems, manufacturing, quality, testing, supply chain, and product management teams.\nSupport prototype builds, testing, validation, and regulatory activities.\nProvide sustaining engineering support for released products, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design changes.\nCollaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners on tooling, qualification, manufacturability, and production support.\nDrive continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.\n3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, new product development, sustaining engineering, or a related product support role.\nExperience with 3D CAD and product data management tools.\nExperience with product testing, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\nCandidates with experience in any of the following are encouraged to apply:\nExperience with rugged outdoor, metering, sensor-based, or high-volume electromechanical products.\nKnowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, casting, machining, stampings, or powdered metal.\nExperience with Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) and Windchill.\nFinite element analysis (FEA) experience.\nFamiliarity with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.\nExperience with ANSI, AWWA, ASME, UL, or Intrinsic Safety requirements.\nWhy Join Xylem\nAt Xylem, you’ll help develop technologies that make a meaningful impact on utilities, infrastructure, and communities worldwide. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
