As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will collaborate with leaders in technology, data, and energy to build solutions and tools for handling the highly complex problems posed by the evolving power grid. You will also work directly on projects to integrate systems and serve energy data to customers. We are curious people who take pride in our work, value high-quality communication, and strive to improve continuously.\nPosition Details\nSalary range: Net 17.000 - 20.000 RON/month\nLocation: Bucharest, Romania\nFull-time\nHybrid - Will be required to work in the office 2-3 days a week\nReporting to: Engineering Manager\nPrimary Responsibilities\nLead the design and delivery of core Yes AI infrastructure: MCP server, natural language integration layer, and the Semantic Context Layer that encodes Yes Energy's power market expertise\nProvide architectural guidance on how Yes Energy data (Oracle, Snowflake) is structured and exposed to AI agents and LLM-powered applications\nWork closely with data engineering, operations, and infrastructure to build services that support real-time, AI-driven customer workflows\nEngage actively in all product life cycle phases, emphasizing design and strategic planning.\nMentor Backend Engineer IIs and elevate the technical bar of the team\nDrive technical discussions and partner with engineering leadership on design and planning decisions\nEngage directly with cross-functional stakeholders - product, domain experts, and occasionally customers - to shape the right solutions\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field\n7+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership\nDeep expertise in Java; solid Python skills\nWorking knowledge of relational database management systems such as SQL Server.\nExtensive experience developing for and working in cloud environments, Snowflake preferred\nExtensive experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs.\nFamiliarity with data integration and ETL tools.\nStrong written and verbal communication; comfortable bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders\nSelf-directed and comfortable supporting the needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.\nKey Competencies / Preferred Qualifications\nSystem Design & Maintenance: Applies architectural thinking to design scalable, reliable, and maintainable software systems, expertly evaluating trade-offs and aligning technical choices with business goals\n Technical Execution: Delivers exceptionally high-quality code in production APIs or data pipelines while adhering to rigorous testing frameworks and test-driven development (TDD)\n Energy Industry & Customer Understanding: Background in data-intensive environments (e.g., equities/commodities trading) or a strong desire to learn the wholesale electric power industry\nEffective Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable bridging technical gaps and explaining complex system choices to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike\nProblem Solving: Applies structured thinking to break down multi-layered technical challenges, ensuring that backend services support seamless, real-time AI capabilities\nStrategic Influence: Leads through expertise and initiative, coaching junior team members, driving planning decisions, and elevating the broad technical direction of the engineering unit\nAt Yes Energy, we value connecting directly with candidates.
