As a member of the professional staff, the Personal Trainer is a constructive member of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members of the YMCA with the highest quality of programming and facilities available.\nThis job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop, implement, and instruct a variety of personal training and group training sessions for clients at an appropriate level and in the appropriate modality based on client’s wants, needs, and ability. Provide encouragement and expertise for the client in support of their health and well-being goals. \nAdminister, track, and evaluate health history questionnaires, fitness assessments, and other pre-participation documentation with regard to individual exercise programs.\nEducates members in proper use of equipment. \nProvides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the participant’s commitment and personal growth.\nMaintains client list and records as required by the Program Director. \nPromote and sell personal training programs and services.\nMaintain required CECs and national certifications. \nFollow Wellness Floor expectations when not scheduled for personal training, group training, or performing a consultation.\nConducting fitness instruction and orientation.\nCritiquing, educating, and demonstrating proper techniques and form.\nInteracting with members, training/educating members, calling members, cleaning equipment.\nMaintaining a neat, clean, and pleasant environment in the Fitness Center.\nPromoting YMCA programs and healthy living through personal example and member interaction.\nEnsuring that all members are following rules, educating members on new information regarding fitness and related topics.\nAttending scheduled Fitness Center staff meetings.\nAny other duties assigned by the Wellness Instructor, Director on Duty, or Executive Director.\nAll YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members. \nQualifications\nPersonal commitment to YMCA ideals.\nKnowledge of strength and cardiovascular training principles.\nCurrent CPR certification.\nPersonal Trainer Certification through a nationally accredited organization including, but not limited to NETA, NASM, ACE, ACSM, AEA. Must hold an Aqua Specialty Certification if personal training is to be done in the pool.\nCertifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention.\nFormal training in the specialty class being taught and/or ability to demonstrate the movements and exercises.\nDemonstrates customer services skills and verbal communication skills.\nDemonstrates ability to lead an individual/group and motivate others to achieve their health and wellbeing goals.\nDemonstrates ability working with all age groups and ability levels. \nAbility to respond to safety and emergency situations.\nDegree in health and science or related field.\nMinimum of 1-year experience in the health and fitness field.\nKnowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.\nUnderstanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.\nBenefits\nEmployee Assistance Program\nRetirement Contribution\nOUR YMCA CULTURE:\nOur mission and core values are brought to life by our culture.
