Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the Y’s policies and procedures. In addition, every position in the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.\nCORE FUNCTIONS:\n1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.\n2. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.\n3. Maintains accurate records as required by the Y and/or the state Health Department code.\n4. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.\n5. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.\n6. Performs chemical testing and documents results at appropriate times, and takes appropriate action.\n7. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.\n8. Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.\n9. Other duties may be assigned.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.\nRequirements\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nIndividual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.\nEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:\nThere are no educational requirements for this position.\nREASONING ABILITIY:\nAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where\nonly limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,\noral, diagram, or scheduled form.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT:\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and /or humid\nconditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and\nextreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.\nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:\nAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability\nto perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and\ndistance.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nMay be required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, of feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or\nhear. The employee frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Occasionally required to walk;\nstoop, knell, crouch, or crawl; and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close,\ndistance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to lift\nequipment, and lift small to average size child. Must be able to pass lifeguard water test, remain alert,\nscan all areas of pool with clear vision, preform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water rescue.\nLANGUAGE SKILLS:\nAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,\nand procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak\neffectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Must be able to project voice\nacross distance in normal and loud situations.\nCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, COURSES:\nCurrent CPR for the PR; required for hire and must maintain certification.\nO2, AED, and First Aid; required for hire and must maintain certification.\nRed Cross or YMCA Lifeguarding Certification; required for hire and must maintain certification.\nNew Employee Orientation; required to complete before starting work.
