Safety is embedded in our DNA, and our proactive approach focuses on user protection, support, and education.\nJoin us in this exciting journey and help us shape the future of social interactions!\nAbout this role\nAs Yubo continues to scale and roll out its 2026 Tech organization, we’re launching a brand new Innovate squad focused on bold product bets and high-risk initiatives.\nThis squad’s mission?\nMake big bets, test ambitious features, and validate them through continuous experimentation.\nWe’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Backend Experience team, reporting directly to Armand (Engineering Manager).\nYou will be embedded in a multi-disciplinary squad (Product, Mobile, Design, Data) alongside one Senior Backend Engineer, co-lead of the squad.\nYour role?\nDesign, ship, and operate high-risk backend experiments that validate bold product bets, while keeping systems resilient, scalable, and cost-efficient within a fast iteration cycle.\nThis is not a “maintenance” role.\nIt’s about building, testing, rolling back, iterating and learning fast.\nYour responsibilities\nExperiments & Product Bets\nDesign and deliver backend capabilities from specs to production rollout/rollback.\n\nDefine and instrument success metrics with cross-functional partners.\n\nIterate quickly based on experiment results (KPIs, dashboards, quantitative signals).\n\nArchitecture & Operability\nBuild resilient, scalable, and cost-efficient systems adapted to high-risk experimentation.\n\nDiagnose and fix complex production issues using logs, metrics, and observability tools.\n\nAnticipate operational impact (deployment, rollback, monitoring, cost).\n\nStandards & Knowledge Sharing\nStrengthen team-level best practices and reusable patterns.\n\nContribute to documentation, RFCs, and internal usability of squad-owned systems.\n\nMentor peers through code reviews and pairing (mentorship is a plus, not mandatory).\n\nOur technical environment / Tools we use\nBackend: Node.js & TypeScript\n\nArchitecture: Event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS)\n\nDatabases: NoSQL, key-value stores, relational databases\n\nObservability: Datadog, Grafana\n\nPractices: RFC processes, technical specs, structured decision-making\n\nWho you are\nYou have 5+ years of backend experience, ideally in startup/scale-up environments.\n\nYou are proficient in Node.js and TypeScript.\n\nYou have solid experience designing APIs (performance, security, observability).\n\nYou have worked with event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS).\n\nYou apply strong engineering best practices (testing, code quality, resilience).\n\nYou have a product mindset and enjoy collaborating closely with Product.\n\nYou communicate clearly and can explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.\n\nYou are comfortable working in English in an international environment.\n\nNice to have:\nExperience in scalable architecture design.\n\nExperience mentoring peers.\n\nFamiliarity with RFC-style structured decision-making.\n\nIn your first 6 months, you will\nShip at least one high-risk, country-scoped backend experiment end-to-end, including safe rollout/rollback and measurable success metrics\n\nEstablish lightweight, reusable experimentation patterns (instrumentation, dashboards, operability guardrails).\n\nImprove one systemic area revealed by experiments (reliability, performance, or internal usability) and drive measurable impact\n\nIncrease the squad’s ability to test bold ideas without compromising platform stability.\n\nThe recruitment process\nPhone screen with a Talent Acquisition Manager\n\nInterview with Armand (Engineering Manager)\n\nTechnical test (home assignment + debrief & system design)\n\nCultural Fit Assessments\n\nWhat we offer\nA highly competitive salary range as well as equity in the company\n\nA highly flexible remote work policy, 2 days at the office per month, with monthly team events.\n\nWe also cover fees for external professional events and meetups (Android Makers, etc…)\n\nGreat health insurance coverage for both you and your family by Alan, fully paid for by Yubo !\n\nNumerous benefits for parents: additional parental leave, easy access to nurseries and daycare facilities in France.\n\nOur approach to privacy & safety\nAs part of your role, you may handle tools and features involving personal data.
