This role performs a range of routine and corrective maintenance tasks-including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC support, landscaping, and carpentry-with increasing independence. The position requires a practical, detail-oriented approach to maintaining buildings and common areas in safe, functional condition.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required; certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology, or relevant field is preferred.\nMinimum 1-3 years of professional experience as a maintenance technician or in a related role required.\nBasic understanding of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry systems.\nKnowledge of general maintenance processes and methods in commercial and residential.\nWorking knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices.\nManual dexterity, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with increasing independence.\nAbility to lift up to 60 lbs. and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling.\nAbility to work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.\nValid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to YWCA locations.\nBasic computer skills and ability to learn job-related software.\nAbility to interpret written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.\nMust pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.\nCommitment to YWCA mission, values, confidentiality requirements, and safety policies.\nThe following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nFacility Maintenance & Repair\nPerform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance across YWCA residential and commercial facilities.\nConduct building surveys and repairs to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.\nTroubleshoot and repair electrical systems (replace bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels).\nAssist with HVAC system setup, ventilation, refrigeration, and conduct basic repairs as needed.\nMaintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality.\nPerform carpentry and general repairs (fix locks, repair drywall, hang fixtures, build and assemble furniture).\nInstall and maintain equipment, appliances, and building fixtures.\nSafety, Inspection & Compliance\nInspect alarm and fire safety systems; notify supervisor when repairs are needed.\nFollow all OSHA standards, YWCA safety policies, and required reporting protocols.\nReport hazardous conditions or equipment failures promptly.\nGroundskeeping & Environmental Maintenance\nConduct general upkeep procedures including landscaping, snow removal, and debris cleanup.\nMaintain building exteriors, parking lots, walkways, and outdoor program spaces.\nOrganizational Responsibilities\nComplete work orders accurately and within required timeframes.\nAttend team meetings, required trainings, and organizational events.\nMaintain confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements.\nRepresent the YWCA positively in all interactions.\nMay perform building cleaning duties when assigned staff is on leave. \nPerform other duties as assigned.\nWORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nWork occurs at YWCA locations, off-site locations, and occasional outdoor events.\nPhysical activities include sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crawling, and frequent movement.\nRegular use of hand and finger dexterity; continual talking and hearing.\nLifting requirements: frequently up to 40 lbs.; occasionally over 60 lbs.\nOccasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, bloodborne or airborne pathogens, outdoor weather, and extreme temperatures.\nWork may take place in high or elevated areas; noise levels typically quiet to moderate.\nVision requirements include: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.\nEquipment used may include personal vehicles, laptop, and work cell phone.\nTRAINING REQUIREMENTS\nOrientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose, and Core Values.\nOrientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, and Mandatory Reporting.\nBasic maintenance, safety and tools orientation.\nOther appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.\nThe above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job.
