Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.\n\nJob Description\nZayo is seeking aField Engineer Specialist to schedules on-site activities with customers, vendors and carriers. The Field Engineer Specialist installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains all equipment associated with ENA services to the customer premise, including data, voice, and wireless communication systems. Defines and diagnoses issues by applying technical expertise, product knowledge, communication and problem-solving skills. Uses independent judgment to determine root problem cause and provide resolution to customer. Manages multiple assignments with shifting priorities and time frames to meet customer expectations.\nLocation Requirement: this role will cover the Lexington, KY metro market area working in the field. Our ideal candidate will reside within a 30-minute commute of the Lexington, KY metro area.\nWork Authorization Requirement: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization, such as OPT, TN, H1B or any other type of work visa, now or in the future.\nResponsibilities:\nCollaborates with ENA Engineers, Project Managers, and others to initiate technical process changes to improve serviceability, efficiency and customer experience. \nWorks with customers, vendors, and carriers to schedule on-site activities surrounding all trouble, survey and installation work. \nPreps and tests hardware for installation. Updates firmware for each device. Ensures that all config components are in place and ready for production prior to dispatch. \nTravels to customer locations to install, troubleshoot and support inside wiring from carrier’s demarc to access router. \nTroubleshoots network hardware problems, utilizes network analyzers and tests equipment. \nResponsible for knowing when to escalate issues to appropriate support group. Interacts with third party vendors and consultants on behalf of ENA. \nHandles low voltage demarc extensions and cross connects between network devices which requires high-level knowledge of Ethernet communications and Layer 2 switching of the OSI model. \nHas a firm grasp on layer 1 connections (Cat 5 & 6 terminations, house cabling RJ21X and 66 blocks, identifying different fiber terminations) which will also be used heavily while in the field. \nCreates, updates and maintains accurate site documentation including all pictures and documents associated with ISP and OSP work for ENA builds into customer’s facilities. \nDocuments all project and trouble work proficiently in an internal ticketing system. \nDuring ISP/OSP surveys, works with vendors and carriers to identify the most cost-effective pathway for both the customer and ENA. \nWorks with the vendor to have a firm quote generated in a timely fashion for Project Management approval and PO creation. \nMaintains appropriate equipment levels for specific coverage area. \nWork with Inventory Management to obtain hardware for upcoming installs. \nTests and repairs equipment returned from customer locations. \nResponsible for adhering to departmental inventory management discipline and keeping ENA’s Asset Management tool accurate and up-to-date in association with activities performed. \nOccasionally coaches, instructs or assists others in area of expertise. \nImproves performance impact through personal growth in knowledge and expertise. \nPersonally seeks continuous improvements in own job performance to contribute positively to department service excellence objectives and customer service. \nImpact directly supports ENA achievement of short term and long-term success. \nOther duties as assigned. \nQualifications:\nMinimum of one (1) years of experience in the data networking field is required.\nA working knowledge of Cisco command line is a requirement. \nCCNA certification is a plus.\nHas knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.\nExperience with LAN/WAN/VPN and remote network technologies and protocols (i.e.TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, ATM, Frame-Relay, DSL) routers, hubs and servers.\nExperience working with VoIP installation and maintenance. \nHas knowledge of WiFi design, installation and maintenance. \nExperience working with carriers and troubleshooting high-capacity data circuits is a plus. \nRelies on experience and best judgment to plan and accomplish goals.\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. \nAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.\nAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions. \nAbility to communicate technical concepts to mix of non-technical and technical people. \nAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.\nAbility to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. \nMust occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. \nMust be able to utilize a standard 8ft or 10ft ladder. \nCompany hours accommodate our customer’s needs; evening, late night, and weekend hours are sometimes required to coordinate customer project work, maintenance, or emergency trouble restoration. \nTravel is required 90% of the time. Must be willing to stay overnight as needed. \nA good driving record and a valid driver’s license are required to maintain this position.\nThe base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role.
