In your first six months, you’ll ship foundational backend features that directly impact users - owning projects from ambiguous idea to production deployment.\nWe work together in person, five days a week, from our San Francisco office. You’ll work closely with founders, product, and design to translate vision into reliable, scalable systems.\nThis role is ideal for engineers who’ve trained in strong product environments and want more ownership than they’d get at a large organization.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign and ship backend systems that power Zed’s banking and financial automation products\n\nOwn features end-to-end - architecture, implementation, deployment, and monitoring\n\nCollaborate closely with product, design, operations, and leadership\n\nContribute to our Rust-based backend (prior Rust experience is a plus, not required)\n\nHelp shape engineering standards, architecture decisions, and culture as we scale\n\nWhat You Bring\n4+ years of professional software engineering experience in product-focused environments\n\nStrong backend depth in a typed or functional language (Rust, Go, Scala, Haskell, OCaml, TypeScript, etc.)\n\nExperience shipping core product features - not just isolated infrastructure components\n\nComfort operating in ambiguity and early-stage environments\n\nHigh ownership mindset and strong product intuition\n\nNice to have:\nExperience at a high-growth startup (Series A-C)\n\nBackground at a strong consumer tech company with meaningful product ownership\n\nFintech or payments experience\n\nExcitement about AI-native development workflows\n\nWhy This Role Is Different\nDirect founder access and real ownership\n\nOpportunity to define the core architecture of a licensed bank\n\n0→1 product building with real users and regulatory complexity\n\nCompetitive cash, meaningful equity, and long-term upside\n\nWe hire exceptional people from diverse backgrounds because different perspectives build better products.\nIf you’re excited about this role but don’t check every box, apply anyway.
