Within the Irradiation Testing team at ZEISS SMT GmbH, we work in an interdisciplinary environment to advance the future of lithography optics. One of our responsibilities is to characterize the lifetime of optical systems under conditions that closely resemble customer applications and to identify particularly favorable operating conditions. In doing so, we improve current products while directly shaping future systems. Our ambition is to continually push the limits of what is technically and experimentally possible.
Your Role
Following a structured onboarding process, you will gradually take on operational and technical responsibility for experimental systems and become their primary point of contact.
Besides setting up experimental systems, you will assume long-term responsibility for their reliable operation.
Regular system inspections, maintenance, sample handling, and thorough documentation are part of daily, high-quality experimental work.
You will work independently and pragmatically within agreed processes and procedures.
Close coordination with the team is essential.
If deviations or uncertainties arise, you’ll communicate them transparently and work together with the team to identify and implement solutions.
Your Profile
You bring a solid science/engineering background in one of these areas: Technical Physics, Applied Photonics, Optical Engineering, Laser Technology, Optoelectronics, or equivalent.
You can design and operate experimental setups and measurement techniques (e.g., optical metrology, environmental controls) and you have lab experience (e.g., student work, experimental thesis, or relevant professional experience).
You describe yourself as self-driven, organized, and pragmatic.
You are comfortable coordinating closely with the team and communicating in German or English when needed.
Knowledge in solid-state physics/material science, basic understanding of chemical processes, and capabilities in programming, electronics, control systems, construction, or gas technologies are a plus.

You’re willing to take responsibility for lab infrastructure and safety.
