You will work on complex systems, contribute to architectural decisions, solve challenging technical problems and help improve the reliability, performance and scalability of Zeraki’s platforms.\n\nYou will work primarily within our Java/Spring Boot backend ecosystem, while collaborating closely with Frontend, DevOps, Product and other engineering teams to deliver cohesive, scalable and reliable systems.\n\nFor engineers who demonstrate the capability and take on formal technical leadership responsibilities, Zeraki will provide a Tech Lead allowance.\n\nKey Responsibilities \n\nTechnical Leadership & System Design \n\nLead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot \n\nOwn architectural decisions across services, ensuring clear contracts between backend, frontend (Angular), and infrastructure \n\nTranslate ambiguous product requirements into well-defined technical designs and execution plans \n\nDrive system design discussions, identifying trade-offs in scalability, performance, and maintainability \n\nEnsure alignment between frontend and backend through well-structured APIs and data contracts \n\nBackend Engineering & Execution \n\nWrite high-quality, production-grade code for mission-critical systems \n\nBuild and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services \n\nOptimize system performance, reliability, and scalability \n\nProactively identify and address technical debt and bottlenecks \n\nEstablish and enforce best practices in code quality and testing \n\nTeam Productivity & Enablement \n\nAct as a force multiplier through code reviews and technical leadership \n\nUnblock engineers quickly when they face challenges \n\nBalance personal contribution with team enablement \n\nOwnership & Delivery \n\nTake full ownership of multi-sprint projects \n\nCoordinate execution across engineers \n\nDrive incident response and post-mortems \n\nProactively Looking For \n\nExperience & Technical Skills \n\n5+ years in backend engineering \n\nStrong expertise in Java and Spring Boot \n\nExperience with distributed systems \n\nStrong System and API design
